I feel like crying 😞

My son, who’s away at university, just tested positive for Covid. 🥺😔

He started school 2 weeks ago. He shares a dorm with two other roommates, so now he will need to be isolated. He is so worried about his classes and getting low grades for missing them.

This must be a cruel joke. How can he get Covid at the same time that my daughter and I have Covid? None of us have gotten it before. This is our first time.

It’s hard when I can’t be there to take care of him. 😢
Northwest · M
I know you're concerned, and he is as well, but this is a very common scenario.

My daughter started college Fall 2020. She spent her entire first semester doing online courses, while isolated at her dorm the entire semester, and as student athlete, it was a double whammy, they had to test on daily basis for the entire semester. UberEats worked overtime :-)

I'm sure the school offers online participation in class, and office time via zoom.

I wish him, and you, a speedy recovery.

@Northwest Thank you

Funny how covid spreads in groups of people, many of whom practice no safeguards. It's how 400 people a day are still dying from it.

Can your son come home and tell his school he's quarantining? If not, hang in there. Even when he seems like he doesn't want to talk to you, he'll appreciate you staying in touching and mothering him. Maybe you could lift his spirits by telling him an embarrassing or funny story about your past each day.

And tell him not to sweat it. Same thing happened with me and shingles. College will wait, grades aren't anything and in five years nothing about this time will seem so important. He's sick; his professors will understand or he'll learn how to navigate bureaucracy a little better.

Best to you and your daughter, too. It's no fun being sick and I can't even imagine being a mom with sick kids. Makes sure you take care of yourself.

@Graylight Thank you. I have a good relationship with my son and communicate with him often. He’s doing schoolwork remotely and has been isolated. Hopefully his symptoms don’t get any worse, and he can go back to classes as soon as possible.

@marsbar From your lips to God's ears. A speedy recovery to all of you.
marsbar · F
@Graylight Thank you
Sweet Lady Mars... becoming anxcious does not help.... you should stop wirrying as Covid now is more like an ordinary cold ....

I had three different variants of the Covic and got better each time after a week..

Lots of liquid, rest, taking helping meds and monitoring is the best you can all do...

I will keep you all in my prayers.... 🤗🤗🌹💖😘

Thanks @Soossie 🤗
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Soossie Were you vaxxed Soosie? I only ask because my vaccine has worn off many months ago and I havent gotten around to getting booster. I do wear a mask a lot, but hoping if I did get it, it wont be too bad even though Im no longer vaccinated. So just seeing if you WERE NOT vaxxed, if you, or one can still fare ok🍁
He will be fine... Like you say, he's only two weeks into his first semester - so, if he's up to it, then he could still do his work while he's in isolation.

If he's too sick and just needs plenty of rest, then he should be able to catch up quickly and easily with a little extra study time. As long as his professors know that he is sick, I'm sure that they will give him the time that he needs to catch up again.

Went through this twice with my youngest. He reached out to profs and TAs and did best he could to keep up. Ended up ordering food in some times to front desk of Quarantine bldg because University wasn't staying on top of that very well.

Stay in touch with him, but encourage him to manage it within his school's guidelines. Best wishes to you all on your recovery. (hugs)
marsbar · F
@Stillwaiting Thank you. He’s managing things now.

On the bright side... he's young and the youth supposively have less symptoms with this... and he should be good to go for the next six months and therefore not have it during finals weeks or a big test weeks.

I know this is hard, but the timing isn't the worst time... and he might have an easier time with covid than you do with not being able to take care of him.
marsbar · F
@Viper Yes, thank you ☺️
PeterJ · 51-55, M
Wow, that just sucks all the way around. Being a parent i know how you feel about not being able to be there for him. Hopefully his school still has remote access to classes so he can keep up. Hope you all get to feeling better soon.
marsbar · F
@PeterJ Thank you. He heard back from all his professors except for one, and I believe he can dial-in remotely.
PeterJ · 51-55, M
@marsbar thats good 👍 hope things work out
marsbar · F
@PeterJ Thanks
MyNameIsHurl · 41-45, F
He will be ok and they should let him make up his work
marsbar · F
@MyNameIsHurl Thank you. 💜

Wishing you and your family a quick and complete recovery. 🙏

Your son likely isn't the only student who's out with Covid. I'm sure his professors will make allowances for this. Perhaps classes via zoom until he no longer is in isolation?
marsbar · F
@Rutterman Thank you. I hope they do offer that. I’m sure a lot of students at the university have already gotten Covid in less than three weeks that they’ve been there.
I wouldn't worry about it. It is Covid. So basically nothing. I mean literally less than half a percent of people die from it and those people usually were about to die anyways.
marsbar · F
@OrionInTheNight I’m not worried about whether or not he’s going to be able to get through it. I’m sure he will. But he will be missing possibly two weeks of school,& it’s his first year in university. He’s worried about how missing two weeks will affect him academically.
is there a way for him to not miss classes while sick? like online lectures and quizzes? 😫😫

get well soon tita mars and family ❤️😔

@Dewms He’s waiting to hear back from his professors.

Thank you Dewmsie ❤️
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
What a horrible coincidence. Doesn't he have virtual contact?
marsbar · F
@samueltyler2 He’ll have to look into it. I think right now he’s moving into his isolated dorm room.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@marsbar obviously that is essential. Hopefully the school has a covid plan, to get him his classes,, good, etc.
marsbar · F
@samueltyler2 He’s waiting to hear back from his professors.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
I agree, two weeks wont be much to makeup..he will be just fine. And hope he feels better soon!! ( you too)🐞
marsbar · F
@Coralmist Thank you. It’s just that he has certain classes where it’s better if he’s there in person. It’s his first year, so to have this happen now when he’s just getting used to everything and settling in, really sucks.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@marsbar Its not ideal, so true. But come the end of semester, he can think, look what I made it through!
marsbar · F
@Coralmist Yes :)

@geoam1 I would think so, but I don’t know how lenient they are with students who have Covid. I guess he will find out.
Bill1372 · 51-55, M
@LadyJ hang in there… I’m sure he’s tougher than you think and I’m sure his professors will
understand
marsbar · F
@Bill1372 Thank you

They are still buying into the lie? I thought we were done with all this bs
Fairydust · F
Is he sick, Or has he just tested positive?
marsbar · F
@Fairydust He tested positive and has symptoms.
Fairydust · F
@marsbar I shared a house with my son and he tested positive, I didn’t get it. I also worked with some in close contact and they tested positive and I never got it then either. Probably won’t pass it on.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
So sorry. I hope you all get well soon.

What are you mad at? It’s the truth. You’re probably all sick because you all got jab and boosters
Justenjoyit · 61-69, M
The University will have a procedure for this set in place so no worries, I hope your son gets well soon
marsbar · F
@Justenjoyit Thank you
