I feel like crying 😞

My son, who’s away at university, just tested positive for Covid. 🥺😔

He started school 2 weeks ago. He shares a dorm with two other roommates, so now he will need to be isolated. He is so worried about his classes and getting low grades for missing them.

This must be a cruel joke. How can he get Covid at the same time that my daughter and I have Covid? None of us have gotten it before. This is our first time.

It’s hard when I can’t be there to take care of him. 😢

Funny how covid spreads in groups of people, many of whom practice no safeguards. It's how 400 people a day are still dying from it.

Can your son come home and tell his school he's quarantining? If not, hang in there. Even when he seems like he doesn't want to talk to you, he'll appreciate you staying in touching and mothering him. Maybe you could lift his spirits by telling him an embarrassing or funny story about your past each day.

And tell him not to sweat it. Same thing happened with me and shingles. College will wait, grades aren't anything and in five years nothing about this time will seem so important. He's sick; his professors will understand or he'll learn how to navigate bureaucracy a little better.

Best to you and your daughter, too. It's no fun being sick and I can't even imagine being a mom with sick kids. Makes sure you take care of yourself.

@Graylight Thank you. I have a good relationship with my son and communicate with him often. He’s doing schoolwork remotely and has been isolated. Hopefully his symptoms don’t get any worse, and he can go back to classes as soon as possible.
