I really understand. I grew up getting my hair straightened for special events if I wanted to wear it "down". I took a break in the 70s and wore an afro, but went back to straightening perms for much of my life. In the early 2000s I stopped straightening my hair once and for all. The curls and coils eventually grew back out. I also stopped coloring it during the pandemic, so now I have chemical-free hair.
