Members who have passed away

I wish this site would stop displaying members who are no longer with us at the top of the page.
mrmoose has appeared again and he did pass years ago.
I visited his profile just now and it said - online weeks ago(exact date?) (Know more precisely the last time a user was online.) Get VIP.
mrmoose last posted 4 years ago.
Not right to continue to display deceased former members.
I disagree Gus. I knew Marty. He was a retired firefighter and paramedic. I know he had his faults, but I like seeing his profile and his mark here. He would have liked this. We had talked about it. At the end of his life he was battling homelessness. Imagine that! A man who had saved hundreds of lives in emergency situations. Marty did have a home at the end with his dear dog. Just like others who have died. We keep their memories alive. Wraithorn. The others. All live still because of our memories.
@Spoiledbrat He committed suicide.
@PoetryNEmotion Omg! I'm so sorry, I had no idea.☹️
@Spoiledbrat I did not know him well. He was a good guy though. His brother came online to express how he felt. He was nice too. Suicide is always a loss.

Just have an "In Memoriam" badge showing or something. It's all about respect. Other sites do that, why not SW?
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@RubySoo that is mentioned ad nauseum upthread.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@uncalled4 huh???
@uncalled4 That actually would be a great idea.
calicuz · 51-55, M
How can they verify that a member has passed away though?
@calicuz I doubt there have been any fake deaths except for the one catfish account. We have to trust that someone is telling the truth. Lying about death is heinous. I am just saying that people here have known people for years if they came from EP. I have. And I can vouch that Marty died. And others have vouched too. I doubt you will find anyone here lying about death. Seriously.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@PoetryNEmotion I would say not to post the members up on that spot if they have been dormant like a year. If they return and use the site go for it.
calicuz · 51-55, M
@PoetryNEmotion

I'm not saying anyone would be intentionally lying, I'm just saying people can be mistaken.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
I suppose admin have to be officially told if a user passes. I dont suppose a mate saying so is official enough? Would you need proof??
Coz....we all know folk here that died who weren't really dead!!
Gangstress · 41-45, F
@RubySoo exactly
When I see their av I think it's nice to remember them...they were here and they'll always be part of us 🌹
RubySoo · 56-60, F
Well, we have had many different senarios in the past where a user is reported dead by 'a friend or relative' popping up on their accoubt and telling us tbey have died. I find this suss... as I know I personally wouldn't leave my SW acc accessable to anyone else! Even if it were genuine, most of us would question. Its happened here a few times for me to know of.
We've had new accounts pop up claiming to be members family/ friend telling us of the users passing..... did we believe them? Where they genuine?
We've even had other members been given access to the deceased persons account (must have been before they died? They knew they were dying??) All very questionable, and as few of us know peoples real names here, even posting their genuine obituary here as proof would not convince the majority of us.
I have one friend here who has access me on other socials who would be able to pass on news if i popped my clogs. Other than that.....i"d just dissapear into cyber space......
It really kind of depresses me. Two that passed where very dear to me and every time I see them up there I get a little sad.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@DarkHeaven Yeah I had Grateful in my circle and didn't know that, that's super sad. I just thought they took a break or something 🥺
@SatanBurger some people you just miss forever. he’s one of them.
@SatanBurger light and love. 🖤
chuck7882 · 61-69, M
It's very depressing to see that
maybe more than just weeks ago. My life has e take long breaks from here,
and do we KNOW MrMoose is decced?
many people just ghost away.
i recently encountered here, a friend away for more than a year
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SatyrService mrmoose asked me if I could help him find his daughter who was living in Australia.
I was unable to find her. Another member here was in contact with him regularly and she informed me several months later that mrmoose had died.
@Gusman oh gosh! he was an interesting man,
but yes I think ther should be some kind of
"User WYZ" are you still here? please confirm your interest

over time, near half of those I have connected to, are dormant or that Big [c=BF0080]X[/c].
@SatyrService Marty died years ago. I knew him from online. I even met him. So I can safely and truthfully say he did die.
Ikr it really hurts the days im sad its like being thrown into a graveyard without permission
@TryingtoLava Lava girl, life and death go hand in hand. We need to focus on the good memories of these people we knew or were friends with. Peace to them, girl. We honor their memories.
RageAgainstTheMachine · 36-40, M
@TryingtoLava Compelling metaphor.
@RageAgainstTheMachine She does have a way with words!
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
I wish the admins would set it up to not display any account that was last seen weeks ago.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Agreed but oh well. If I complain then they remove it to punish me so I won’t.
Gusman · 61-69, M
If a profile has been inactive for a year or so?, then the profile could be removed permanently.
Should the person come back then they could set up a new account.
This could be stipulated in the terms of Service.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SatanBurger I can relate to that.
Though when those profiles are viewed it states - online weeks ago(exact date?) (Know more precisely the last time a user was online.) Get VIP.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Gusman keep the profile for memories just don’t put it up there on that strip on top if the account is dormant.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Gusman hey check again. I saw your profile first thing and others that are online just now. Cool if they kept it that way. They are watching us or AI is.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
I think it's kinda hard to see who passed and who didn't, it's a bit like facebook and probably too much to deal with. Also you never know if users really do die or if they just disappear. I'm sure that you personally know that some users die but some just go away.
HannahSky · F
There's no real way of knowing that about an account. Unless they decide to take it down after a certain amount of time as inactive.
TheRascallyOne · 31-35, M
Yeah, a lot of my friends are in there. They should go into like a hall of fame
MrsMONAKanful · 36-40, F
How do you know they have passed away
Gusman · 61-69, M
@MrsMONAKanful I know mrmoose passed away because a close friend of his told me.
Jimbo7 · M
R.I.P. Marty🎚️🪷
It would be sufficient to just get rid of the floaty head bar
(or use a browser extension like uBlock Origin to hide it yourself, that's what I did)

It would be almost impossible for a site this small to truly verify that every user had actually died
Hanginginthere · 31-35, M
Simple solution; delete all inactive accounts from at least 6 months ago
Hanginginthere · 31-35, M
@calicuz ok? That’s just you it’s still a good idea
@Hanginginthere thats silly af so you can only keep a journal for 6 months or its gone? Go to my first post on the first day SW opened ive had more than 6 month breaks in the last 9 years so do i deserve to have my past erased? Nopeeeee cali called it. Im proud of my first day of SW and it means something to me like you joined in 2023
Hanginginthere · 31-35, M
@TryingtoLava again it’s my answer it’s my opinion I didn’t ask you to chime in.
