Members who have passed away

I wish this site would stop displaying members who are no longer with us at the top of the page.
mrmoose has appeared again and he did pass years ago.
I visited his profile just now and it said - online weeks ago(exact date?) (Know more precisely the last time a user was online.) Get VIP.
mrmoose last posted 4 years ago.
Not right to continue to display deceased former members.

Just have an "In Memoriam" badge showing or something. It's all about respect. Other sites do that, why not SW?

@uncalled4 How would SW know that a member had died?
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@ninalanyon There are some people who know/knew the users irl who can corroborate the facts.
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
@ninalanyon Very true. If someone walks away from their account, it just remains inactive.
Admins have the email address of each member, if an account isn’t used for a determined length of time, they can reach out through the address, no answer, close the account.

@uncalled4 How can SW trust someone who just says so and so has died? The site has members all over the world and most of us are not prominent to have an obituary published in a newspaper or mainstream media channel. Even if documentation is provided how could such a small site afford to verify its authenticity?

There are two people who i know both here and in real life but neither of them would know if I died because they don't know any of my family.

@Quimliqer But realistically the site has to wait months before closing the account.

But why do people who aren't active appear at the top of the page anyway? That could surely be fixed just be not displaying profile pictures of users who haven't posted or reacted recently.

@ninalanyon Who is asking SW to do that? And, almost everyone I know who has passed ends up being mentioned in a local paper somewhere or through a funeral parlor online or even FB.

I had a former co-worker pass away and I immediately notified a site he/we used to post on. They had his real name and it was easy for me to provide documentation. It's the easiest it's ever been in human history to do.

@uncalled4 So you expect the two people who know me to subscribe to a minor Norwegian newspaper in the hope that my death might be announced there. What about someone whose passing is announced in Swahili or Gujarati, etc.?
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@ninalanyon I dunno, ever hear of this Google Translate thing? Ultimately, I'm saying if the loss of a member's life CAN be proven, it ought to be acknowledged, nothing more. How/if they go about that is up to SW.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@uncalled4 Sounds like a lot of work for them with little or no financial benefit, only costs. Googling my, or probably your, user name isn't gong to turn up an obituary.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@ninalanyon Especially not now, as we currently exist. Sounds like we disagree, have a good evening!
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@uncalled4 It won't turn up an obituary even when we die.
@uncalled4 that is a really good idea!!
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@uncalled4 but it would have to be 'official'. Someone saying someone has passed is not enough.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@RubySoo that is mentioned ad nauseum upthread.
RubySoo · 56-60, F
@uncalled4 huh???
@uncalled4 That actually would be a great idea.
