Not really, considering that some people are posting “selfies” and asking for first names, which (to me) makes no sense on an anonymous site. Knowing that you’re male and in your late 20s wouldn’t identify you from everyone else.

I don't see how it is...even though there are people who can and will lie about it, it still does help for the most part to have an idea of who you're interacting with.

No, it's helpful to know this to understand the perspective of the poster. I think the approx location should be provided too as many forums do. Even with all this you still have anonymity.
