Has this been the longest funeral ... ?

No offense but who is footing the bill?

I shed a tear or two when I heard Queen Elizabeth died but - in this economy - is it wise to prolong the fanfare? It seems a bit insensitive.

This is the tradition when a monarch dies.

The US is not paying, so yes it is offensive to question it.

The security bill you are paying for your president to attend on the other hand might be something for Americans to consider.
@meJess Probably didn't even think about that...
@meJess Considering the questions Brits often ask about the goings on in the U.S., I guess folks thought we had that kind of relationship. 🤔

Insensitive is what they do. Princess Di died 25 years ago and every few months there is some new 'Explosive, Shocking, You wont believe' bullshit airing on prime time TV. Followed by the supposed scandal of Harry's Red hair and a picture of the Queen when she had gas that one time. And then comes the inevitable tv series on the monarchy, and you just hope that nothing else happens to start this fucking cycle all over again.
It was the media that caused harry to rebel, drink do drugs and run around with strippers in Las Vegas. One of whom sold "Harry's" underwear on E--bay last month for $10,000. And they are probably as real and authentic as the over 20 pairs this American stripper has sold off. Americans don't give a f#ck. Its ridiculous. The royal family are real people too, Let them grieve their mom in peace and leave them alone!
We spend $100-200M on a presidential inauguration. $1-2M refurnishing the White House. Because you know, the new first family find it unliveable. Over a hundred thou on the White House Christmas tree.

@CopperCicada You got a point there. Disgusting.

{@cheesenpickles] it is a monarch that has reigned seventy years and been a good queen and ambassador for her people and country, people wish to share the grief of the royal family and pay homage to her majesty in any way they find fitting too do so
Lol... even a commoners funeral takes three weeks from death to funeral ceremony...
@HootyTheNightOwl here it's usually 5 days, 7 tops if the funeral center is busy.
cheesenpickles · 26-30, F
@NerdyPotato My family doesn't believe in the process of embalming (vile) so we tend to hurry the process along.
@cheesenpickles Yes... it took three weeks from my mother's death in March to cremating her in April - April 1st.

One thing that sticks in my mind during those three weeks is the discussion that my man, friends and I had on the differences between British funerals and Dutch funerals.

I think it's not because of her as a human being: she represents a country, she was the embodiment of the country – she symbolized the country until the day she died, and she did a pretty good job doing that. It's the country celebrating its national identity and unity.
And there has been no such burial for 70 years! I don't believe it will take another 70 years until the next Royal burial, but you never know.
cheesenpickles · 26-30, F
@helenS Without a doubt. I have the utmost respect for her and always will. I guess (selfishly) I am tired of crying every day (literally) whilst watching the events unfold. I attempt to appreciate the historical significance but the magnitude of the passing of time is ... painful.

And I'm not even British.
helenS · 36-40, F
@cheesenpickles I'm not British either. I wrote somewhere else the following lines:
"I have always had the utmost respect for this remarkable woman.
When it was about self-discipline and performance of duties this lady has always been my role model. Always doing what had to be done. A person from an era when honesty meant much more than money, and perhaps even more than life."
cheesenpickles · 26-30, F
@helenS You and I both ❤️ She was the perfect role model for women.

its so long when u open the coffin there are only bones left
cheesenpickles · 26-30, F
@btchstfu I'm starting to feel sorry for her. Let her rest in peace already.

The News stations have been on a week long orgasm...
cheesenpickles · 26-30, F
@Keeper For sure. A lot of people are profiting from this spectacle.

The eyes of the world are on us it’s good publicity plus the armed forces would be paid anyway
cheesenpickles · 26-30, F
@Barny52 That's a good point.

my mother passed away last year and the burial process took 3 weeks 🤷‍♂️ UK building as much publicity as possible around this sad occasion to boost the common wealth and monarchy. don't be surprised if the royals take advantage of this fanfare to consolidate power and extend influence - lots of countries are suffering and could benefit from the monarchy network and bargaining power. agree, this event goes beyond reasonable lol
tenente · 100+, M
@cheesenpickles to be fair, my mother passed away in Canada and we needed a week to return to NYC for her burial. so not a normal burial
@tenente 3 weeks is reasonable. Without any flying involved, it took 3 weeks from my mother's death in March to her cremation in April.

@HootyTheNightOwl sorry for your loss 😞
