Since when is being honest or telling the truth a crime?

Had a few people put me on the spot by asking me my opinion on their actions, which caused conflict or adversity with others as I remained quiet.

They said, 'whats your opinion, promise I won't get mad just tell me the truth'.
To which I reply, 'what do you want the truth or the glossed over version'.
They always pause before answering and say, 'tell me the truth, I won't get mad'.

In that way the decision to hear the truth is on them.

Because often people use the excuse of telling the truth to spout hate, opinions and hurt. Just because you believe something to be true does not mean to need to vocalise it

It’s a game some people play that I call “shoot the messenger”.

Truth and honesty don't come consequence free, that's why they are concepts.

Because it's YOUR truth not THE truth.

It's a set up. This happened on a family trip and after I gave my mother the honest response she asked for, she didn't speak to me for the rest of the trip, and a month afterwards.

People don't want to hear your opinion. They want to hear their opinion coming out of your mouth. 😉

If you stand up for what you know to be truth,there are many who hide behind lies,and they will do all they can to discredit you.Maggots.

Maybe when social media came along. Seems many prefer over positive affirmations that douses the truth in falseness.

Many think they're up for it, few are however.
