@Ducky The algorithm often seems weird to me. questions that get replies recycle immediately, while unanswered q's drift down the list till they vanish. If questions are posted at inactive times they may fall away unnoticed. Also, there's a group process which develops a character or flavor such that the sum of the parts ends up exaggerating whatever tendencies are uppermost.
