What are some food items you can buy in a store that would have the longest shelf life?

My guess is pickles, honey and stuff like dry rice and beans

@TheSirfurryanimalWales cool, I'm guessing you're English maybe. I'm gonna do a post showing my pantry when I get less lazy.

I buy in bulk and can my own in glass jars.

My oldest canned food is from 2014, and is still safe to eat.

In recent years frozen items from Scott's expedition to Antarctica (1910-13) were found to still be edible. Not sure about the quality.
here are some. You might look at Prepper sites. Lots of info there
Dried beans, 30 years
Rolled oats, 30 years
Pasta products, 30 years
Potato flakes, 30 years
Dehydrated fruit slices, 30 years
Dehydrated carrots, 20 years

Wow, wouldn't have guessed dried fruit would last 30 years
@swandfriends I'm a serious prepper so I might be a bit dramatic. I purchased a vacuum sealer to make my own long shelf life foods..Amazon has good and affordable ones. You'll save money and have more shelf space

Honey will last for thousands of years, literally. Rice, if sealed and stored in an airtight plastic drum container, also lasts almost forever.

Cool dry storage is usually the key.

Canned coconut milk can last for 2 1/2 years.

Powdered milk can last up to 20 years if properly sealed in airtight plastic containers.

Canned fish can last for up to three years.

Dried lentils will last for five years with proper storage.

Instant coffee lasts for 10 years.

Powdered eggs last for 7 years.

Spaghetti or any dried pasta can last from 7 to 30 years.

Canned beans can last up to 30 years.

Dried corn lasts up to 10 years.

Dehydrated carrots can last up to 25 years.
I've never heard of powdered eggs. @4meAndyou

@Spoiledbrat I bought two packets on Amazon when I couldn't go to the grocery store because of Covid. You can use them like regular eggs in baking. In the army, they used to serve them to the soldiers instead of fresh eggs. I've heard they are nasty plain, but good if you make an omelette or serve them with salsa.

Peanut butter? Are you prepping?
Honey sugars, but sealed pickled items, sealed undented canned items, sealed dry uncooked rice & beans...

And SPAM.

Dehydrated milk, pasta, canned and jarred foods if in-opened. Frozen stuff tends to last a long time.
Most anything that's canned, plus u can freeze stuff too.

@whowasthatmaskedman Don't they go stale?

@KiwiBird Given enough time, Yes. I did assume you didnt need grains that would outlive you and they are cooked off and dehydrated.😷

canned food is good forever, so you could eat a can of beans that is 150 years old
