Is the keto diet safe

cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
I think it can be for a short period of time ,a few weeks, especially for someone who is having diabetic issues. It can be very helpful for Type II Diabetics to lower blood sugar, and they can gradually reintroduce some complete carbs like nutritious veggies back into their diets.

But even saying this Keto is not for me. Paleo is much better, I can have sweet potatoes and other starchy root veggies on that diet. In any case it’s good to minimize sugars, and eat less carbs and have an overall healthy diet including healthy fats.

@cherokeepatti exactly, and should be about more healthy fats than meats, but becomes a challenge to have a balance since it's so low in carbs.. So I see why so many people get sick.. 😐

@SW-User I have to have resistant starches in my diet for proper digestionand that means it’s not going to be low carb. But it can be healthy carb…peas, beans, sweet potatoes, lentils, beets and fresh fruits are all healthy choices of carbs. Better to eliminate refined starches and focus on the healthy ones.
SW-User
@cherokeepatti exactly, the refined ones are the problematic ones.
I have healthy carbs but with moderation. Try to at least.
So mostly rely on veggies, healthy meats. And yes healthy carbs but still not so much. I agree the procesed ones are the worst.. 😱 Going out it's difficult to find healthy options sometimes

A friend of mine just got out of the hospital. He went on the Keto last winter. He has now developed calcification of the kidney and a huge kidney stone. They had to do surgery and may have to go in again. There could be other things at work here but: He had no signs of kidney problems before going on the diet.

His Drs. told him to get off of it. Kidney damage is a known problem with that diet.

You gotta research that yourself.

What are your needs? Allergies?

Lifestyle.

As usual... "brand diets" are CRAP.

Best to get a dietician to look over your routine & diet journal, in case you got to review of what your specific needs are & what yr current situation is.

Expect a a "comprehensive metabolic panel" to be taken... & questions about current diet & issues you know you have.

... otherwise it's the same SHIT... different dietary 'PROBLEM'
(or what most claim...'solution')

If diets worked... wouldn't be soooooo many .

sorry. 😑😶🙁

Yeah but you have to pick good options of food, too.
Like too much cheese wouldn't be a good idea, even if ofc it's admitted. Better sources of natural fats are better, avocado is a must there. Coconut oil too. Meats, fish and veggies, though better the low carb options, most I think are.
And well you basically say goodbye to sugars, flours, regular pastas, potatoes (you can have edulcorants and almond flour or coconut flour..)
It's limited for sure.
But the options are good, the keto desserts etc.
Lots of recipes too.

I don’t think it’s a good idea. A co worker told me about doing this diet. She told me she looked at ingredients of white keto bread and regular bread. There is more fat in keto bread then regular bread. It’s pretty much same as Zero soda, diet soda it’s safer to drink regular soda then Zero and diet soda. They have to put things in it to make it taste better. Everything is going Zero now. I buy regular Orange, apple, cranberry Juice before I buy zero or diet juices

yep it is safe to do
Quetzalcoatlus · 46-50, M
It’s only for immediate weight loss/transformation. Once you’re at your goal you have to taper off
Wolfgirl12 · 26-30, F
@Quetzalcoatlus I have to be skinny to be pretty
SW-User
@Quetzalcoatlus it's just complicated to keep up with that style forever, I usually low carb most of the time, but not really keto anymore. But I don't miss at all the sugars or wheat flours..nor rice. Easier for me to count carbs than calories.

Better for some people than for others.

@bijouxbroussard worth it I'm trying to get to 115 pounds
@Wolfgirl12 It’s your life and your body. Personally, I think it’s stupid to choose a method that could screw up your metabolism at best (so you can’t lose weight in future) or actually kill you. Bulimia’s no joke. 🙄
Wolfgirl12 · 26-30, F
@bijouxbroussard if I gain the weight back I'm ending everything and canceling my trip
