I think about 50%
I would give some to my family
I have a good friend and I would probably give her about $1 million because she works very hard in a low pay job so she deserves it.
Some I would give to regular charities
I can manage with $12.5 million

Zero would prefer to hand out cash myself to poor people , i don't trust charity organizations , you know how much money actually really trickles down to the poor after administration costs and the higher ups lining their pockets
penguinswon · M
i totally agree

I have a feeling after a year or two of Trump $25 million might buy a Big Mac and an order of fries and a small Coke. If not, I would rather leave it to be given away in my will.

I hear you

ten percent.. to the local children's hospital and some to the no kill animal shelter where I adopted my cats.
75 percent of the balance would go to family and friends

20 million. I'd keep the 5 because that's enough (+ security) for the rest of my life.
AbbeyRhode · F
A lot, after making sure everyone I care for is well provided for.
Datdudeblack · 36-40, M
depending how much i get after taxes but like 5 mill.
MikefromEP · 56-60, M
Roughly 1/3rd. Now if you add in friends and family that gets much larger. Winning the lottery is a bonus.. I did not have it today and I did not have it tomorrow, which we all understand from paying into the poormans taxation concept. Two million will easily get me through my life after everything else is settled

None..I would open up my own organization

None, for the government tries to get their mitts on it.

these responses amaze me... the attachment to material gain is so futile. I'd give as much away as I could, but I'd make damn sure that the funds were benefiting the people who needed it most. And i would be ruthless in that pursuit. I don't like charity. It attracts grifters who would capitalize off the wealth and gain moral currency (another word for them is American politicians). In my vision, people who are hungry, smart, disciplined and visionary would get my support. And a substantial part of their gain would go to people like them who need it most> See, people who succeed, for whatever reasons,, end up stepping on others. So it's not always about ideology, it's about personal id.
I don't see any value in supporting the hangers on....like the rich entitled kids of Republican parents.
And they are the first to invoke the values of the American work ethic when they have never worked a day in their lives

Most people with money donate, because charitable donations are deductible..its more about laundering money than its about helping the ones in need. Thats the reason behind my comment, not greed
penguinswon · M
@Traubi: and I agree with you totally
katielass · F
Ok, I'd end up with only about $17-18 million after taxes so I'd give $5 million to Wounded Warrior Project and another $2 million to train dogs for the handicapped.
Nimbus · M
Very generous.

it just goes to administrative costs.. company car for the charity boss.. etc etc
LucyFuhr · 56-60, F
If I'm "poor" before the big win, wouldn't that make ME a charity case? ;) LOL

I'd wonder what I was doing in America!

Charity is crap. I'd invest it in communities to help bring sustained change rather than temporary aid.

SW-User
I didn't think they necessarily meant charity organizations. If so, then I'd do similar to you.

The mission where I volunteer could use 5 million. 2 million would buy their building outright.
