I once had a colleague who had 9 cats.
She smelled like the litter box. I can't even imagine what her house smelled like. 馃槀

[@44604,Aidolovemostofyourthoughts] oh damn that must have been hard for you to take. My niece got a cat even though her father told her not to, she was renting his mobile home. She had the litter box all the way in the back bathroom and the smell of it would hit you in the face when she opened the front door. I literally had to take a shower when I got back home to get the smell out of my nose. And I鈥檝e had a cat before with a litter box but I changed the litter often and didn鈥檛 let it stink like that.

This can be avoided by frequently changing the litter and by buying more expensive cat litter. Sometimes people just get used to the smell and don't realize what other people experience as they arrive from the fresh air outside.

My suggestion is to teach your cat to use the toilet; it's not that hard to do as cats like to be clean and neat. If you ask about it at a pet store, they often sell kits with directions for teaching your cat.

And, of course, you can dig up your garden soil and add plenty of pearlite to the soil and then build a cat door either in a window or a door so that the cat utilizes the garden soil as it's restroom. After a while, you can put flat river rocks over the used soil and dig up and add the pearlite to a fresh area. It takes about 6 months for the cat do to blend with the soil and, unlike dog do, cat waste is good for the soil and most plants.

[@358142,greenmountaingal] I bought 10-packs of cat pan liners at Dollar Tree and cheap litter, but i put a bit of baking soda in the litter. I changed it every single day and it only smelled when she took a dump and I took care of that quickly. So no odor in my apartment.

[@16806,cherokeepatti] The baking soda thing works well. I used to put a layer of baking soda under the expensive Fresh Step litter I used. Plus my cat had a cat door in the window and a garden with loose soil and pearlite outside to use.

[@358142,greenmountaingal] the litter box liners were only $3 for the entire month and changing it every day using cheap cat litter didn鈥檛 cost much either, I just used a small amount. I don鈥檛 know why someone would dump 10 pounds of litter in a litter box and wait till it鈥檚 brimming with turds to change it and live with the overwhelming smell.
I used to. I was so paranoid about that when I had a cat, I scrubbed that box several times a week.

Yup..., and I venture to say never again.

Cat people houses always smell like stale piss. They all deny it but every person who doesn't have a cat smells piss. It is disgusting.

[@763897,Harriet03] What a great future! But those cats would need to use a cat door to go outside and use the garden for their kitty restroom.

{@eyeamhere ] i have a kitty and can understand what you say she is a house cat so only does her business in her kitty the smell is short but not too sweet
wildbill8336-40, M
that's pretty much anyone with an indoor pet, they've probably become so used to it that they don't even realize their home smells like the inside of a dumpster...

I don't know if it's just people I know, but every house I've been in with cats smells like a litter box.
No but I couldn't go in a house like that.
