This can be avoided by frequently changing the litter and by buying more expensive cat litter. Sometimes people just get used to the smell and don't realize what other people experience as they arrive from the fresh air outside.

My suggestion is to teach your cat to use the toilet; it's not that hard to do as cats like to be clean and neat. If you ask about it at a pet store, they often sell kits with directions for teaching your cat.

And, of course, you can dig up your garden soil and add plenty of pearlite to the soil and then build a cat door either in a window or a door so that the cat utilizes the garden soil as it's restroom. After a while, you can put flat river rocks over the used soil and dig up and add the pearlite to a fresh area. It takes about 6 months for the cat do to blend with the soil and, unlike dog do, cat waste is good for the soil and most plants.

@greenmountaingal I bought 10-packs of cat pan liners at Dollar Tree and cheap litter, but i put a bit of baking soda in the litter. I changed it every single day and it only smelled when she took a dump and I took care of that quickly. So no odor in my apartment.

@cherokeepatti The baking soda thing works well. I used to put a layer of baking soda under the expensive Fresh Step litter I used. Plus my cat had a cat door in the window and a garden with loose soil and pearlite outside to use.

@greenmountaingal the litter box liners were only $3 for the entire month and changing it every day using cheap cat litter didn’t cost much either, I just used a small amount. I don’t know why someone would dump 10 pounds of litter in a litter box and wait till it’s brimming with turds to change it and live with the overwhelming smell.
