Lou Ottens created a few things during his time.
The Cassette tape and cassette recorder came in '63 and meant that for the first time ever you could have portable music of your own choice.
And then twenty years later he created 'Disc technology' which gave us the C:D and the Laserdisk. The forerunner to what we now know as DVD.
He was also instrumental in bringing together Phillips, the Dutch company he worked for and Sony who were attempting something similar at the time so that discs for either audio or visual could be standardised.
Anyone who considered buying a Sony 2000 at the time would certainly have been grateful as they cost around £3,000 at the time !

@Picklebobble2 I remember the mini cd players, I think Sony released them. I nearly bought one because you could record with them too but the mp3 player came along and they disappeared into distant memory.

That coveted first album sits in its box. The old familiar smell, soft metallic whine.
I cherish it above all.
The medium by which I interpreted my world; I was director and curator of the aural landscape on which I found myself.
From the personal production studio atop my Boom Box, were launched a thousand house parties; and memories to last a lifetime.
Thank you, Lou.
For the mix tapes, and dance parties. The soundtracks of youth.

"Mixed tapes" were a major contributor to Keeper getting laid back in the day...

@Keeper All her favourites, a definite winner!

Cassettes are better than cd's
VHS tapes are WAAAAY better than DVD's

@Elevatorpitches I agree with cassette tapes, there's something soulless about a cd that can never replace the older formats.

@BeerMonster You can't even get what would have been mid fi decks today, the transports are bad. The cassette was always an over-achiever after the introduction of better tape formulations and Dolby.
Ah,the mixtapes I made!😋

@bookerdana Dolby was a miracle, Walkmans with Dolby were a must have.

@BeerMonster Thank Henry Kloss ..he flew to England and convinced Dolby to make a consumer version of Dolby A,also the introduction of Chrome tape...he was kind of a loveable old duck ,his deck had one "true" VU meter and an add on mic pre amp that was really high quality!

i liked 8 track players , had great sound too
BeerMonster · 51-55, M
@FurryFace They certainly did, I prefer that quality of sound to modern digital.
FurryFace · 61-69, M
@BeerMonster yeah like ISA sound blaster 16s are way better sounding than PCI sound cards

Yessss.
I would sit by the radio on my floor so that I could pause during commercials and record Casey Kasem's American top 40

@JaggedLittlePill I did the same with the UK top 40, trying to stop and start at exactly the right time. I wish I'd left it and recorded the dj too, for added nostalgia.

Yes they're great. Records are best
BeerMonster · 51-55, M
@SW-User Cassettes and vinyl, can't beat it but I'm glad I don't have to carry cassettes with me on the beach etc, mp3's are much more convenient.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
No I never was that into music to record it
