City living demands a lot of energy. You don't live in the city for the peace and quiet.

because they want some peace and f'n quiet already. they're not trying to run a rat race anymore.

They get wiser with age...

@MagicaloneANRABF Wisdom doesn't have anything to do with it. The transition is usually about energy and experience saturation levels. People get boring, and comfortable with being boring - they feel like they've done all the city stuff they want to do. That's fine, just a new stage of life.

@QuixoticSoul Dude, you explained me to a tee. That's exactly where I have been in my life ever since my late 40's early 50's. I got to the point where whatever there was to do (in the streets) I had already done many times over. And just the thought of doing it was a bore. Actually, I really can't stand to be in the company of others for more than 15-30 mins at a time. Because after all the how deedoos and what's new business is over the conversation always goes back to stuff we discussed the last 10 times we met.

But even with all that. I still feel comfortable in the city. Because if I move to the suburbs or the country the monsters that always eats up the teenagers, the parents who don't listen to the little kids, the stupid deputies, and the old people (like me) might get me.

Because metropoleis (correct plural btw!) are fun and exciting but also really horrible, miserable, polluted, and generally suck the life out of everyone if they're there long enough.

Some people can take living in cities happily enough, but no one is meant to. Human beings belong in a green world not a concrete one.
You get tired of people.

The city: Rat race, hustle and bustle dog eat dog, crazy property prices.
The countryside: space, less noise and pollution, a slower pace, serial killers, affordable living, busy bodies 馃槉

I'm young and I hated living in the city. It felt scary and unsafe. Way too crowded and noisy.

@vvsrocks13 Well one of the cities I lived in was very dangerous so there was no helping it there. Part of it is my ptsd and part of it is girls get harassed almost constantly in the city. I would daily be catcalled by men, followed, etc. It was very stressful especially if there was hardly anyone else or no one else around.
I am not sure they don't. As for me, I want to retire in a smallish college town (40,000 people) -- lots to do and traffic not so bad.
QuixoticSoul41-45, M
@BiasForAction I grew up in one of those - and that's my plan too.

You can grow your own food, have more privacy and live amongst nature which makes most people naturally happy.
