I've heard it more so as an argument to oppose racism. I'm sure some use it as an argument to oppose things that aren't in favor of the nation, but I'm sure a lot of those things could be debated anyway, since what's "in favor" of the nation definitely is opinion based most often.

This nation is made up of immigrants. Most nations are a mix of races and conquered peoples, but the US stands out. Funny thing is, we treat immigration like it's a subway car - once "ours" get on board, suddenly there's no more room for those running to catch the train.
Our greatest strengths come from the breadth of experiences, cultures and histories we all bring with us. They should be celebrated. Great philosophers aren't solely American. Nor are surgeons, schoolteachers, fashion designers, inventors. The more immigrants who make up a country, the more intricate and colorful is the fabric of that country.

@SW-User Ahh. A point we can agree on. But your constitution protects you there. And a few rabble rousers will emerge for any cause. I would like to see migrants embrace a new country, rather that bring the old with them in the form of politics. But I would also like ALL region relegated to private practice and has all churches taxed. I guess we cant have everything.

@basilfawlty89 Yes, and I make an allowance for that. And it really wasn't WASPS. It started much, much earlier with Spanish explorers and missionaries.
But genocide by WASP as we know it didn't really take hold until the Western expansion into inhabited territories. Up until then, it was attempts as compromises and individual skirmishes. For the most part.
