Has this argument been abused a lot to justify things that weren't in favor of the nation?

I've heard it more so as an argument to oppose racism. I'm sure some use it as an argument to oppose things that aren't in favor of the nation, but I'm sure a lot of those things could be debated anyway, since what's "in favor" of the nation definitely is opinion based most often.

@AmmieBell people really like to talk down about illegal immigrants (not referring to this post specifically, just in general) but they don't bother to educate themselves on the system itself. Our immigration system is whack.
