What does the confederate flag actually represents ?

Elegy · 46-50
Now?

A symbol used as fearful response to growing equality, which is long past due but still fealt to encroach on the sometimes seemingly hard fought privilege and entitlements of disproportionately underprivileged whites, causing a disconnect probably promoted by those more well off that prefer to keep the status quo. It is also touted as a symbol of heritage but that is probably more rhetoric than anything else. People have lost more valuable symbols under the auspices of healing a nation for lesser reasons than pride.

@NativeOregonian Read more carefully.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@Elegy I have, it is pure gibberish.

The past - sad America does not seemed to have moved on from the Civil War in the last 150 or so years since it ended ☹️
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@Dlrannie Many have not, they prefer to hold onto a symbol of treason.
Carver · 31-35, F
Rebellion or war as it’s actually the confederate battle flag and not its national flag.
JustinOnTheRoad · 31-35, M
States rights. Not so much slavery, although many naysayers on the left will disagree.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
Rebellion and treason against the United States.

@NativeOregonian Pretty much.

I also see it as just a general redneck symbol. That's how I view it when I see it being flown here in Indiana.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@SW-User Yet Indiana was a Union state. I think the same thing where I currently live here in iowa, ignorant racist fucks, all of them. Shit, even Steve King proudly displays a desk confederate flag in his Congressional office, denigrating all the iowa soldiers that died in the civil war that fought for the union, and the bastard cannot understand why the US House voted 421-1 against him and lost all of his committee seats.

Which one?
For most people it's their Southern Heritage
Low life groups like kkk and others use to carry American flags but now disgrace the Stars and Bars.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@SW-User Their southern heritage? That flag is a symbol of rebellious treason, an act of insurrection.
SW-User
@NativeOregonian you need history lesson!
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@SW-User 🤣 Sounds like you need to be deported back to Ol' Bammy.
bowman81 · M
What we call the confederate flag is the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@bowman81 Which was adopted by Jefferson Davis to represent all of the confederate states.
bowman81 · M
@NativeOregonian Nope, there were 3 flags of the Confederacy..two used the battle flag in their field (where the stars are in the US flag...The second and third flags below look are the same size as the first. The flags are white with the field set in the upper left corners.

NativeOregonian · 51-55
@EvilFairy Exactly, without knowledge of history, we can never learn.
