I have had almost no personal issues involving a customer, but a friend I used to work with had a pretty bad experience. She was on register and a clearly heavily intoxicated woman came up to her and tried to purchase more alcohol. We are told we have the right to refuse them it. My friend refused to run up the purchase, and the woman started screaming at my friend and called her a bitch and everything else. At one point we thought the woman was going to reach over the counter and start choking her. She was going completely ballistic. 🙄😳

I don’t have a customer-facing job, thank god. When I did, I used to remain polite and professional, because paying my bills and buying groceries was more important than the brief catharsis that I might have enjoyed by yelling back at a rude customer.

I fight what I really want to say and do because I have to...businesses now make it part of your job description to lay down like a floor mat and let them walk all over you. Customers can come into the place of business you work and treat you any way they want, and you can't say or do a thing about it because "the customer is always right". Anything for that almighty dollar including welcoming the mistreatment of employees in order to keep them coming back to spend more. It's BS and highly stressful.

Ignore them. If they want service, they better act like true costumers

Treat them with kindness until they feel guilty

@GJOFJ3 That's what I always try to do...but it often goes beyond just rudeness. They often also get hateful and verbally abusive, throw temper tantrums, etc. and you are still required to be friendly and smile. It is not easy to do, and it rarely ever makes them "feel guilty"...I have seen it escalate too many times, then management comes out and caters to their every whim and demand. It doesn't take them long to figure out that they can have anything they want by acting anyway they want. The problem continues to grow and the companies don't care as long as they can keep piling money in the bank.
