Have you never taken your vehicle to a mechanic?

I consider it a matter of personal pride, no one works on my vehicles except me.

I will work on my own but if it's something that I know that's more in depth I'll get a mechanic

Yes, all the time. I'm not a mechanic and don't have their training and equipment, so it's worth it to me for the time it saves and the job being completed properly.
With everything becoming more and more computerized, it's hard not to.

you fix the computer in it as well? Or is it a classic

@NeutronSynapse: I asked about the computer...what do you do when the computer goes haywire
NeutronSynapse · 56-60, M
@Fernie: Replace it. You can find tested units online for most modern cars. If it's a matter of expense, go for a used computer that has been tested.

@Fernie: If you're willing, you can find a local yard and possibly pull your own.
You got to get a mech check once a year to pass rego..
They always find some bs you got to fix b4 pass. My 4x4 usually needs a bush or 2. Fookers got me on a slight drop from my diesel pump last year

@theoneyouwerewarnedabout: It's BS too! I had my El camino tested with and without racing equipment, on the same motor, and it blew cleaner with the racing equipment. I put a chevy small block in my Cherokee, it was a bitch to get them to test it.
My friends got a suped up v8. He's got to take a bunch of stuff off it including the exhaust manifold to get a pass. Then put it all back on after.. Nanny state

My 65 Tbird I do all my own work. New vehicles you can't touch them without a computer :(
maxlaff · 56-60, M

NeutronSynapse · 56-60, M
Me too.

I would if I owned a car but I don't.

How do you deal with newer vehicles were the engine is blocked off?
maxlaff · 56-60, M
with a multi meter and a test probe
engines require only three things
fuel...air ...and an ignition source

If you feel apprehensive about busting into your own, go to the parts yard and pay two bucks so you can take apart another vehicle and become more familiar.
I haven't. I don't have one to begin with
