Having been brought up with imperial measure and avoirdupois, by the age of 8 I was a proficient-arithmetically - in base 12, base 36, base 8, base 1760, base 15 ,base 14, base 21, base 112, base 20, base 21, and of course base 10. I could do them all mentally. I did not know at the time what an arithmetic genius I was! It also made me both fluent and familiar with vulgar fractions. What child of 8, brought up in a decimal environment can do any of that!!!!!!!

The other advantage of imperial is it's very visual as smaller, everyday levels. Measurements like the inch, the foot, the ounce, the pint, the gallon etc etc. are much easier to comprehend and visualise than decimal parts of the metre and kilo. Hence an earlier comment by one of your males! "Six Inches" is the male benchmark world wide!!!!

@SW-User That wasn't what I meant.
popmol · 22-25, M
@Cynthia not sure why i said it but maybe that was the point i don't remember 🤣
popmol · 22-25, M
@NankerPhelge i maje english spelling miatake oftrn and i try to fix them but sincei'm a hospital delirious of pain i'm not in the mood to do so

Imagine my surprise when I told an American I used to do bench press with a hundred lbs but pronouncing it "libs" and he looked at me like a crazy person. Imagine my surprise that somehow lbs translates to pounds. How does that happen how do libs become pounds?
ZonkeyBalls · 46-50, M
@DrSunnyTheSkeptic It's the same funny thing, that back in the days, when I was living on the other side of the pond, a guy told me that kilograms are for drug dealers. I begged to differ a bit. Then again, even the Fahrenheit scale makes no sense. I guess it was invented for the sole purpose of writing classics, such as the "451".
popmol · 22-25, M
@DrSunnyTheSkeptic yeah its confusing!
SW-User
@ZonkeyBalls "kilograms are for NASA"
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
i hâte metric system. the only reason i use it is when other other people do. otherwise i can more easily visualize feet and inches and undrstand fahrenheit better - and i’m not american BTW
popmol · 22-25, M
@NiftyWhite i refuse! I like arguing here in the hospital its so boring!
NiftyWhite · 46-50, F
welp. hope you feel better soon then
popmol · 22-25, M
@NiftyWhite thanks! I hope you're having a nice day! If you want to tell me about your day please pm me i want to get to know new peopl
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
When they learn to lie. I learned not to lie before I knew those silly metric things existed.
popmol · 22-25, M
@NankerPhelge i'm sick and i'm on a phone
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@popmol Yet you are not too sick to argue with others about which system should be used.
popmol · 22-25, M
@NankerPhelge of course not also that was morning this evening
SW-User
It would have been better in base 12.
popmol · 22-25, M
@SW-User how come? So its more acurate with time?
SW-User
@popmol It's because 12 is divisible by 2 and 3 and 4 and 6, whereas 10 is only divisible by 2 and 5. That makes it easier to do arithmetic with, and it's the reason why nearly all music uses 12 notes in an octave.
popmol · 22-25, M
@SW-User aah cool! But using a binary would be cool too though!
MarineBob · 56-60, M
sorry, I'd rather measure my dick in inches not cm
popmol · 22-25, M
@MarineBob that and screens are the only things i tolerate in inches
SW-User
24 hour clock and yyyy-mm-dd
popmol · 22-25, M
@SW-User well we do dd-mm-yyyy but not that weird switcheru
SW-User
The metric system is what I know and oftenuse but the Americans on here don’t always get it so you have to adapt. Lolz
popmol · 22-25, M
@SW-User well for me people here are just a bunch of feet 🤣
Wraithorn · 51-55, M
I also prefer those measurements and it's probably because I grew up with them so they are familiar.
popmol · 22-25, M
@Wraithorn true
SW-User
I not understand the measurements here in US.
popmol · 22-25, M
@SW-User cause they make no sense!
VeronicaPrincess · 61-69
When I was in grade school, way back in the 1960's, we were told that by the time we graduated high school, the USA would be fully converted to the decimal system. Obviously, our teachers were wrong. What a shame.
popmol · 22-25, M
@VeronicaPrincess so sad indeed
joe438 · 61-69, M
Maybe after drinking one pint too many. Then they sober up.
popmol · 22-25, M
@joe438 great!
Toasty · 22-25, M
Toasty · 22-25, M
@Toasty I LOVE THE METRIC SYSTEM.

I love how much easier it is to convert
popmol · 22-25, M
@Toasty haha true
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Why is it best?
popmol · 22-25, M
@MrBrownstone makes more sense
SW-User
@MrBrownstone Because it's much easier to work with.
Platoscave · F
Americans....naaahhhh!
popmol · 22-25, M
@Platoscave yeah cayse fahrenheight is so usefull i mean it makes no sense. Celcius is ice melts at 0 water cooks at 100. 10 on 10 on 10 cm is 1 litre water it all makes sense
wackidywack · 22-25
Say it louder📣
popmol · 22-25, M
@wackidywack yell it out noooow!
HappyBella · 41-45, F
popmol · 22-25, M
@HappyBella yes 2 votes!
