Having been brought up with imperial measure and avoirdupois, by the age of 8 I was a proficient-arithmetically - in base 12, base 36, base 8, base 1760, base 15 ,base 14, base 21, base 112, base 20, base 21, and of course base 10. I could do them all mentally. I did not know at the time what an arithmetic genius I was! It also made me both fluent and familiar with vulgar fractions. What child of 8, brought up in a decimal environment can do any of that!!!!!!!
The other advantage of imperial is it's very visual as smaller, everyday levels. Measurements like the inch, the foot, the ounce, the pint, the gallon etc etc. are much easier to comprehend and visualise than decimal parts of the metre and kilo. Hence an earlier comment by one of your males! "Six Inches" is the male benchmark world wide!!!!

@popmol Why do you keep putting an "e" instead of an "i" in "divide"? Those two letters aren't close to each other on the keyboard so it's a strange typo to make repeatedly. 🤔

Presumably English irony does not translate very well into staid European minds. Clearly I was being light-hearted. The last thing I am is a mathematical genius. At the same time, name me one modern 8 year old that can Multiply 117 Pounds, 7shillings and 2 and a quarter pence (a farthing) by 638.
I could!!! Base 4, base 12, and base 20, enveloped in base 10 arithmetic.
Of course the metric system is a far more efficient system. I was indulging in ironic nostalgia.
In your lumpen manner, you insult my intelligence by suggesting I don't clearly see the difference between numbers and human perception.

@SW-User Say some.

@NankerPhelge Like geologists, for example.

@SW-User Well, let them think what the heck they like. Whoever put the Channel Tunnel there in the first place knew what they were doing. And so do I.

@NankerPhelge I'm pretty sure the people digging the chunnel knew they weren't crossing a plate boundary.
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@SW-User That wasn't what I meant.
