Do you think that highschool diplomas are still useful?

or not anymore?
BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
Even a college degree is worthless. Because people don't value education anymore.

Unless you want to work at McDonald's or Walmart, yes.

Not if you’re going to trade school

@SW-User You get the right scores and get in. There are also 2+2 programs.

The degree is the new diploma has it is stupid.
SW-User
@MethDozer 2+2 programs? Also right scores get you in only if it’s on your Year 12 finals, I’m not aware of any colleges granting admissions on basis of Year 11 scores if that’s what you’re saying
MethDozer · M
@SW-User I know lots of people who got in without a diploma and GED with good entry and SAT scores.

2 plus two is program here were you start off at a community college and get your Associates and if you do well then transfer to a four year or masters program. It saves a bunch of money and allows one not to waste time at a University to find out they are changing majors or not up to snuff for the degree they intended.

Well... The way I see it is that most jobs that only require a high school diploma only pay minimum wage. The current minimum wage right now is not a livable wage like it used to be way back then. So I would say that yes, a high school diploma has become less valuable as a result of this. It's not something that anyone can just get by on with absolutely no problem anymore. So to me, it is just a stepping stone to getting a college degree or some job training at vocational school. You can't really get any good jobs with just a diploma or a GED anymore. You'd have to get very lucky.

Useful in such a way that it prepares you to be accepted in good colleges.
Dolimyte · 41-45, M
What are you going to do without one? Work as a lab rat?
Trucker334 · 46-50, M
Still a requirement for many jobs and college.
Spartan1 · 46-50, M
Diplomas yes. College. Not so much
MethDozer · M
Not really. With college loans and aid becoming so easy to get the schools have created a lay dry list if b.s. Degrees to get that money. In stupid ass things too like motel management, landscaping, and even crap like gender studies.

So basically what happened is the diploma became useless and any job worth a Damn now needs a college degree. Often it can be in anything at all and unrelated to the job entirely. It is often just a ticket to prove you are not lazy. Take Hertz for example, to work as a manager you have to have a degree. In what? Anything. Could be animal husbandry or African history. Why? Because of reasons. Good job Modern world. You delayed adulthood and added to the coat by expanding University to be an experience instead of a place to nurture the best and brightest while the rest of us graduate HS and go to work debt free.
