Why are a lot of people so obsessed with learning an Asian language and travelling to Asia?

This summer I’m going to travel to France. I don’t know much about why people want to travel to where, I know Japan is a big destination spot, not too sure about other places. I imagine people would like to go to China for the Great Wall or Forbidden City.

Good (and cheap) food, great movies, interesting culture.. It's completely different than their homes (and probably parents) so it feeds into their teenage desire to rebel.. don't get me wrong I love asian culture and am also interested in learning their languages and traveling to their countries. I'm not trying to down play it or make it seem stupid.

Interesting culture, tourist spots, cheap foods, people you meet.. Once you had a great experience (wherever it is, not just in Asia), you'll definitely be going back.

Asian (pop) culture is spreading to Western world. Movies, music and TV shows are accessible on YouTube and other websites.
Thanks to the internet and mobile applications, learning foreign languages is easier than ever before.

But I don't know about anyone who would be particularly obsessed with travelling to Asia.
