Why are a lot of people so obsessed with learning an Asian language and travelling to Asia?

Good (and cheap) food, great movies, interesting culture.. It's completely different than their homes (and probably parents) so it feeds into their teenage desire to rebel.. don't get me wrong I love asian culture and am also interested in learning their languages and traveling to their countries. I'm not trying to down play it or make it seem stupid.
