Is the truth held by a majority?

A universal (common) truth is really a TRUTH ?
bijouxbroussard · F Best Comment
Not necessarily. It can be merely a common misperception, where everyone is viewing it incorrectly. 🤔

@bijouxbroussard Thanks you very much!!!!
@Hougal Thank you for BC ! 🙏🏽

@bijouxbroussard You're welcome!

Nope. Reality is reality. Just because a majority of people believe something, doesn't make it a reality. It just makes their estimation of it wrong.
Hougal · 31-35, M
Reality is Reality but if the reality is ruined or trapped, what will happen?
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
@Hougal Can you give me an example?
Hougal · 31-35, M
@SinlessOnslaught Example : The religion and spirituality ! All the religion or spiritualities explain differently things about heaven and so on..
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
Not always but usually. There’s always a fringe group of contrarians.
Hougal · 31-35, M
@WintaTheAngle Thanks you to make me the difference!!! I understand now
WintaTheAngle · 41-45, M
@Hougal No worries.
Hougal · 31-35, M
Depends on what the truth is and what the majority to believe.

Such as the majority used to believe the world was flat.... now the majority believes the world is round.

That weren't both right.
Hougal · 31-35, M
@sstronaut Yes!!!! What is your conclusion???
Hougal · 31-35, M
@sstronaut Normally, a truth must be straight.. with no contractions
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
Truth is still truth even if there are no people to have an opinion about it.

Of course many truths have uncertainty. Even mathematical stuff. Math gets around this problems by assuming some simple things are true, then building off of it.

@Hougal

Fuzzy math.

Consensus is not truth, its sheeple
Hougal · 31-35, M
@Patriot96 Right!
JustNik · 51-55, F
Noooo. The majority belief has nothing to do with what is true or not. Not to say it’s never true, just that one shouldn’t make that assumption based on that factor alone since large groups are just as susceptible to falsehoods as individuals are.
Hougal · 31-35, M
@JustNik you're right!
Justice4All · 36-40, M
The Perceived Truth, yes,
Hougal · 31-35, M
@ElwoodBlues Irrelevant? So all your perception are true?
@Hougal Just the opposite. Perceived truth often has little relation to actual truth. I know; I've studied relativity and quantum mechanics!
Hougal · 31-35, M
@ElwoodBlues Okay. I understand
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
No. Truth requires facts, or its just popular opinion..😷
Hougal · 31-35, M
@whowasthatmaskedman Geniusly said... Right!
Convivial · 26-30, F
Only by definition
Hougal · 31-35, M
@Convivial You're right!!!!
Smart answer
Convivial · 26-30, F
@Hougal brevity rules lol
Hougal · 31-35, M
@Convivial hahaha 🤣
Hougal · 31-35, M
@therighttothink50 Thanks you for the value you shared with me!!!
Truth has nothing to do with majority, but also nothing to do with conspiracy theories or holy terror for that matter.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Depends what you mean by "truth."
Hougal · 31-35, M
@DunningKruger Truth have many explanation????
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
@Hougal Yes. The context is relevant.
Hougal · 31-35, M
@DunningKruger I understand!
If it was, there would be no reason to protect from the tyranny of majority
Hougal · 31-35, M
Absolutely not.... being a minority does not mean you are false
Hougal · 31-35, M
@InOtterWords Right!
truth or falsity has nothing to do with the quantity of people who acknowledge either
Hougal · 31-35, M
@ElwoodBlues Yes... But not easy to reach the truth...
@Hougal Here's an unfortunate fact of science: hypotheses can only be disproven. Newton's law of gravity is a great thing, and still in use today, but technically it's wrong because Einstein's General Relativity has corrections. And maybe someday there'll be a quantum gravity theory that supplants GR.

The good news is that each new succeeding theory provides more accurate results, for example, Newton is good enough for many of NASA's calculations still today.

In math you can prove things; not in science.
Hougal · 31-35, M
@ElwoodBlues Nice reflexion (explanation) !!!
It depends, consider the source.
