How do you overcome self-sabotaging thoughts when it's impossible to cut off people contributing to these negativities?

That's toxic! Create some space, gradually ghost-out of their life's to the degree necessary. Simply stop feeding the flames and go about your business. You don’t owe anyone an explanation! And if they're family members, They don’t own you simply by virtue of being blood relatives. refuse to let them drag you into their emotional narratives! So, tread lightly and make calm, rational decisions. You need to go through this, NOT around it.
@ryoshi0915 I believe I just told you! Take your time It's a process... Don't argue with them, But firmly restate your boundaries. Also, you need to examine your thoughts and express your feelings by writing yourself a letter.. sort of dress rehearsal for an in-person conversation a (monologue)! That way you’re clarifying your thoughts and articulating your feelings.

You do not have to allow any negative people to take up real estate in your brain. If they are family or roommates or for whatever reason you can’t cut them off, you still owe it to yourself not to buy into their negativity— especially if you’ve done nothing to merit it❤️

@Sweet517 How do you control your thoughts?

Practice meditation, this will help you to still your mind. When not in mediation (most of our day), take breaks, stop and ask yourself what you are thinking. We play these negative tapes in our head as a habit, by recognizing this we can become more aware of when we are doing it. Eventually you learn to let the thoughts flow through with out carrying on with them. Be kind to yourself as this isn't an overnight thing it takes practice.

@curiosi What kind of meditation?
curiosi · 61-69, F
@ryoshi0915 Mindfulness is good (although everyone has their own preference). This free online book (scroll down to the chapters) has a lot of helpful info. It has advice on how to keep you focused and also how to meditate while doing ordinary things.

It’s not easy. Therapy would probably be useful.
ryoshi0915 · 26-30, F
can you do that?
LyricalOne · F
@ryoshi0915 Absolutely, if you can fill your life with positive activities and people until you reach the point that what the negative people say doesn’t have power over you.

@LyricalOne What kind of activities do you do?

Why is it impossible to not let anyone else take your power away?
ryoshi0915 · 26-30, F
@Fernie It's not impossible. What's impossible is the unhealthy contact on a daily basis.
Fernie · F
@ryoshi0915 well...that can be exhausting. Hope you can get out of that environment
