Do you think Magnus Carlsen is right to insinuate that Niemann cheated against him at the St-Louis chess event?

I find the accusation very unprofessional from the chess champion.

I don't think it's anything new. The world of chess seems to have some huge egos which are easily bruised.

I remember Kasparov accusing Deep Blue of cheating when it beat him, lol

I'm not entirely sure HOW you can cheat in chess anyway. It's not like you can hide your moves from the opponent.

I agree with you with you! no proof, it sounds like witch-hunting.
However, when a human opponent suddenly plays alot of good moves, if feels like you’re playing a computer or maybe they’re getting some help.
To beat a computer you have to play like a human, with some strategies that are almost impossible for a computer to categorize(like human biases). When a computer plays like a human, you can tell.

At the end we still need proof before making accusations.@Whodunnit

Magnus is a phenomenal player, but he is losing his edge. It was inevitable, happened to all of the best, Kasparov, Viswanathan. He must accept it.

The result of not doing so will be the tarnishing of a legacy he worked so hard to achieve

@Longpatrol I was thinking the same thing this morning. His legacy is getting tarnished! He was expecting the guy to lose just because he Carlsen made a good preparation!? Guess what!? Niemann was also prepared!!
All this tells me that at the 2600+ level there’s really no difference between players in the middle and end game.
Carlsen’s opening didn’t give him an edge, if he was that extraterrestrial being he thinks he is, he should have won the middle and end game regardless. But reality was different. He’s human after all.
Always seemed a pretty classy guy. If his assumption is proved to be wrong I'm sure he'll apologise, but I tend to believe he had good reason to think something was off

How can one cheat in chess? I don't understand that part.. 🤔
eMortal · M
@GoneSilent using vertical and horizontal coordinates you can identify any exact position on the board. Abbreviations like B=Bishops, K=King tell you which piece is involved.
For example. Bd2 means Bishop at column d and row 2.
Using that system you can write ✍️ down an entire game in a piece of paper or notebook.
The cheating part is usually done with computers. While you’re playing, a friend of yours mimics the same game/steps in on a computer, let it guess the next move, then finds a way to get it to you on the tournament floor.
You can develop a morse code for anything. Recent suggestions talk about having vibrating beads in your rectum (Elon Musk’s theory) that can be controlled remotely. The player has maybe learned what kind of vibration is B, d or 2 as in Bd2 (Bishop in d2) 😂😂😂
In my opinion it could work but the player would be too jumpy and uncomfortable, probably sweating like crazy 😜 or having uncontrollable orgasms hehehehe
Another way of cheating is that I can still your preparation, your notes, your strategy then prepare to outplay you.

@eMortal So basically they are mimicking the robot moves to win. Thanks for your explanation.. 👍
eMortal · M
@GoneSilent correct. 😂

Kind of agree.

I’m waiting on what Magnus has to say next, he can’t just leave this where it is it makes him look worse.
