Why do so many "comedians" laugh at their own jokes?

Like this guy.

I always thought they weren't supposed to do that. Was I wrong? 🤔

I don’t know, same reason we keep dating sorry a lot 🤷🏼‍♂😅
Some people here in the US do have your opinion, so I guess there is a strain of that around the world.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Good point. Maybe it's like the fake laughter we often hear on sitcoms that are meant to be signs for the audience watching that a joke has been told, so it's time to laugh ('The Big Bang Theory' comes to mind, because that show was painfully not funny).

Because laughing is kind of contagious and some people might laugh with him when he initiates the laugh (especially for lame jokes).
By seeing a group laugh, another set of people might laugh.Simple tactic used by these comedians.

@Thatlady Real comedians, ones that are actually funny, don't need to employ "tactics".

@Pambie True.
Because it was funny? He was breaking the 4th wall

@HijabaDabbaDoo The fourth wall? I don't know what that is, but I do know that I'm more inclined to laugh at something said by a stand-up comedian when they don't laugh, because what they've said is actually funny.

@HijabaDabbaDoo Exactly. Like when someone says "I crack myself up" same sort of concept. It's funny, they thought so too.
