British sense of humour/sarcasm seems to go over a lot of heads here.

It’s not so serious..

It's some of my favorite humor honestly. 🤔

I grew up watching Monty Python's Flying Circus and Mr. Bean though so I guess it makes sense. 😂
Sherlock · 26-30, F
It is entirely serious.

🤔🤔🤔 What EVER do you MEAN???😉

Very often British humour relies on pauses/silences and facial expression for effect. The 'after word' at the end of a comment is often the bit where the 'joke' comes to a climax. None of this is easy to convey here and a shared cultural understanding of British understatement and reverse irony (saying the exact opposite of what is actually meant) helps in an understanding of the way we speak.

It's preferred by those with a broad vocabulary to the stream of foul language that passes for commentary in some places.
Who are you calling short??😷
Kuronekko · 41-45, F
I get taken so literally sometimes. I have quite a dry sense of humour and even the people around me think I'm being serious at times 🤣
anythingoes477 · 31-35, M
@Kuronekko DM me??
AnnaBanana00 · 22-25, F
@anythingoes477 You’re persistent aren’t you
anythingoes477 · 31-35, M
@AnnaBanana00 There are soooooo few intelligent. personable people with a sense of humour on here it's worth asking the one you run into now and then if they'd like to chat.
The people who don't get British humour here generally don't get humour full stop. They're here for tits and arguments about politics.
BillyMack · 46-50, M
@AnnaBanana00 you get me. 😐
Sherlock · 26-30, F
@ostfuidctyvm Where are these tits you speak of, oh wise man of the village?
@Sherlock All in my inbox 😌

Its isn't just British sense of humor and sarcasm. Most people on here must be under 3' tall. Almost EVERYTHING historically, politically, rationally, logically or humorous said goes over a lot of heads.

In your age bracket,here in America, they see sarcasm as a personal attack ...my generation was brought up on it.
AnnaBanana00 · 22-25, F
@Justmeraeagain Well those people need to lighten up!
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@AnnaBanana00 I would say a lot of people need to lighten up.
I think there is something to be said with meeting people where they are and trying to understand cultural differences so that you don't get offended, but that's my own opinion.

There is a dark sarcasm that can hide the intent to hurt and never want to hurt anyone with my sarcasm it's just being funny for me.
But ,it's not good to be so touchy that people take everything personal, especially if it's not even aimed at them.
ArishMell · 70-79, M
Aye - we practice it against ourselves first.
