Tell me a funny story about the area you live

See this only happens in Wisconsin. So a couple years ago my kid and coworkers were given quite the shock when they spotted a whole live cow in the back seat of a car going through the drive thru at the restaurant they work at.

Perhaps even more shocking was that this happened at 1pm, not 1am, so it’s at least less likely that the driver was drinking at the time.

My kid never did say whether he ordered a salad or a buger…there’s also got to be a joke in there somewhere about it being the first time anything related to a cow was actually at the restaurant.

Now tell me a story from your next of the woods

I was driving down a side road where a lot of Amish live, and where an Amish family I made friends with live. It was winter and below freezing long enough to develop ice on ponds. As I drove past one of those ponds, I saw two of the young sons standing out on the ice with a sledgehammer one the boys' hands and the other had a splitting maul for wood in his hands swinging away at the ice.

I stopped and told the boys that the ice was not that thick yet and that I would not be standing out 15 to 20 feet from the shore trying to chop holes in the ice go ice fishing. They misunderstood me and said dad said we could go ice fishing we do not have any chores to do right now. I said OKAY, and drove to their parents' house a couple miles down the road. I told the wife, "Hey that ice is not really that thick yet, that I would not walk out on it as an adult yet" ""And maybe they out to be drilling a hole and not chopping away while standing on the ice with a sledgehammer and splitting maul". The mother a simple Amish woman just looked at me and said, "Freeman is not here he is at work, and he told the boys they could go ice fish?". I said, "MaryAnn that ice is thin yet and what if the whole breaks and they fall in the freezing water they are at least 200 feet off the shore Line". MaryAnn looked me in the eye and said, "I guess they will get wet then". I just said "okay" and drove home. I drove back over around 6 pm when it was dinner time and Freeman would be home to check on the boys.

No fish caught no kids drown and I asked Freeman is he was not sure part of their lineage was not Polish. We laugh after I shared what I saw the boys doing on the freshly frozen pond. Freeman said the older boys and girls were planning on going to the pond to ice skate and play hockey, but he cancelled those plans due to the ice being too thin. I looked at MaryAnn and said, "That was why I stopped here earlier today, I was worried about Lee and Willis".

Weird how dumb we are as kids and survive our dumbness.

Not really funny and I understand having 13 kids like they did that any extra meat helps out, but dang it there are smarter ways go about getting it.

I used to live in Wisconsin. This was told to me second-hand, back in the 1970's.

Cars did not have GPS's then, and people did not have cell phones. But there was a "deluxe" option that some cars had, in which you could hit a button on the dashboard and speak with a live person who could track your location. I believe the main purpose was for calling for help. (I think the system was called OnStar, but that might have been something else.)

Well, this call center was located in Atlanta.

So a friend of my friend apparently decided to drive his car onto a frozen lake in Wisconsin and activate this feature, to see how someone from the south would interpret things. He told the operator he was lost and wanted directions.

She responded with great alarm, "You're underwater! Get out of there!"
