I live among the diaspora here. The "nationalists" who have run the show in Ukraine since the coup in 2014 are the same people they fled from decades ago. The only thing Hitler and Stepan Bandera disagreed on was who the "master race" were. He got his start mass murdering Polish Ukrainians which is probably why there are likely more of them here than in Ukraine at this point. We also have alot of Russian Ukrainians (mostly leftists) and the far right groups that were suddenly buddy buddy after the war were invited here.
The Nationalists threatened violence at vigils for the people massacred at the Odessa Trade Union House in 2014." And some of the shops in my neighbourhood were decked out in Waffen SS memorabilia and they were openly fundraising for the nazi militias which last I checked was illegal at least at the time.
As for Russia I have always seen Putin as a gangster who runs a very large crime family. One part alot of people don't like to remember though is his gangster stake was largely created by the US business interests because they didn't give a shit about democracy it was about giving the US fortune 500 the ability to loot Russia as soon as possible. Many Americans involved don't even pretend to hide that fact.
Clinton compared Yeltsin the Drunk to Abe Lincoln while he was shelling the shit out of the Russian Duma with T72s.
