Saw a lone goose flying through the snowfall.

I could hear it honking as it flew. It kind of sounded like "Silly goose should have gone south a week ago".

That always makes me a little sad. Maybe they got left behind, are too old to keep up make the journey. I love watching geese fly and hearing them but one all alone. I just feel bad for them.

@lovelychicadee Actually we have quite a number of geese and ducks that overwinter here. They find open water in the various cooling ponds from generating stations and save themselves a lot of work. Smart birds.

I grew up in the Midwest. The sound of a flock of geese flying overhead while migrating was a common event in October and November. Your post brought back a cherished memory. 🦆

@TexChik The farms in our area were able to claim waterfowl damage on their government sponsored crop insurance. Some of the guys nearer the lake lived for years without harvesting a crop. They would plant the field in the spring and collect insurance money in the fall.
