Are online friends worth it in this day and age?

Is it still a thing to have online friends? Do people really pen pal without romantic feelings involved?
deadgerbil · 22-25
Yes, but it all depends on who you're friends with. I've been friends with someone across the world for like 5 years now with no issues

I think any real friendship is worth it, whether online or off, and I appreciate them all.

I miss real friendship
I miss real connections
I’ve been an online friend with this guy from Greece since I was 14 (we are both 26 now). No romantic feelings, and it’s nice having someone to ramble to that doesn’t know anyone in my real life.

Oh, yeah! I love having online friends, and I have no interest in a romantic relationship.

No one cares anymore. Friends are not important. It is all about virtual relationships. Times have changed.

It's not about online or offline, it's about how you get along with a friend. I have friends in real life that are just friends, but I wouldn't share most issues or thoughts with them and I have some close friends I really trust, the same goes for my online friends, some I met almost two decades ago. In the end it's always a trust issue and if the personalities match.

Yes . And I think having online friendships is more convenient since you don’t have to spend money on gas/transportation to see them, no need to pay for food etc. You just use your fingers. Only downside of those friendships is that they eventually die out. People get married, get kids, change careers etc. , they have no time for online friends, and that’s understandable.
I have had friends (both sexes) all over the World....probably because I traveled so much and met so many people while I was younger.
I learned long ago never to give any impression of romantic feelings....and still, I get ghosted a lot when friends of the opposite sex get involved with someone. Jealousy on the part of their SO is weird thing.............

Yes it's still a thing and worth it if you can obtain it for sure. But oddly enough it's more difficult now to find an online friend then it was previously even though the world is more connected than before. I wonder why that is?

I have women friends on line without any sexual constraints. Sex, in my mind, is meant for real life only, not here. Flirting is ok as long as neither feels it’s getting awkward.
sure, sometimes when you are busy online you dont go looking in weird places coz theres no one else. Also, its a fact that venting to a stranger online can indeed be helpful...

You should be friends with everyone, and let them choose to snub you.
Friendliness maintains civility. It holds the world together.

They're what you make them, regarding worth it or not. I don't think it replaces real life face to face connection. It's not the same.

Online friends are here today and gone tomorrow. A warming fire one day, and smoke lost on the wind the next.
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
I think so. Connections don't have to be romantic but they need to be engaging enough to sustain, I feel.
MerryMilkshake · 22-25, M
yeah I have a few, meeting new people, especially online, does tend to have a lot to do with sexuality though
exexec · 61-69, C
I enjoy most of them. If it's not a good match, communication ends quickly.

bmet a few good people, a lot of asshats, and some heart break
You can have friends online but it's hard to find the right fit.
Good friends are good friends online or otherwise
I do. That's all that matters.

You are lucky if you find one.

They're not like "real" friends, but can be enjoyable nonetheless.

We've been sexting for years

@SkeetSkeet our marriage is over!

Yes I do, sex isn't life

A good friend is always worth it.

I think they are worth it. I have been friends with a group of women I met online when I was pregnant with my first son who is 15 now.
