tips for getting bestie out of a funk?

My best friend struggles with unmedicated bipolar depression (no insurance), and has been in a bit of a bad way for the last few weeks. I offered to take him to a movie, to the outlet mall, etc..played games with him..watched a movie at home last night, etc..

He finally admitted that he is a "broken man" who "has no hope where he used to". I truly believe that some therapy, slight medication, gym membership, and job (he just got out of a DV situation where he was the victim, and lives with me now) would mostly do the trick....

He has an interview tmrw, so I am stoked as can be about that. But any ideas are welcome..he is in a bit of hibernation mode right now, in anticipation of his interview, so maybe i should just leave him alone for now....

When I got out of my DV marriage I went through a really really bad depression and when my kids were with me I could get up and do things for them but as soon as they went to bed or weren’t with me I couldn’t get out of bed.. my adoptive mother kept checking on me and bringing me food which I wouldn’t even eat and making sure I knew she was there if I needed her.. you are doing an amazing job he probably just needs some time to feel his feelings

@MommaBear I am so sorry..that is like a death, but the person is still living! thank you so much for your encouragement.
It sounds like you being who you are and being there for him is exactly what he needs. You're giving him space while letting him know you're available. For some that is priceless.
@foldedunfolding You're welcome. I'm glad he's up and around and had a better day. I think it's because of your good care.

@onrealityofdreams oh shh he is a sweetie..i am just out here tryin..ty love
@foldedunfolding It sounds like you're doing more than just trying. You're succeeding in taking care of a friend.
how about taking him out for a nice lunch or dinner for a short term solution....but for the long term solution just keep being the best friend that you can be for him. so seem to be doing a good job already, just keep it up.

Right.
So my brother has bipolar.
When he's manic, he's unreasonable af.
When he's depressed, he's near unaliving when he's depressed.
Besides OCD, I have PDD (dysthymia).
Anhedonia is a pain.
Show him life can still be fun and pleasant
