tips for getting bestie out of a funk?

My best friend struggles with unmedicated bipolar depression (no insurance), and has been in a bit of a bad way for the last few weeks. I offered to take him to a movie, to the outlet mall, etc..played games with him..watched a movie at home last night, etc..

He finally admitted that he is a "broken man" who "has no hope where he used to". I truly believe that some therapy, slight medication, gym membership, and job (he just got out of a DV situation where he was the victim, and lives with me now) would mostly do the trick....

He has an interview tmrw, so I am stoked as can be about that. But any ideas are welcome..he is in a bit of hibernation mode right now, in anticipation of his interview, so maybe i should just leave him alone for now....

When I got out of my DV marriage I went through a really really bad depression and when my kids were with me I could get up and do things for them but as soon as they went to bed or weren’t with me I couldn’t get out of bed.. my adoptive mother kept checking on me and bringing me food which I wouldn’t even eat and making sure I knew she was there if I needed her.. you are doing an amazing job he probably just needs some time to feel his feelings
