I kind of got a similar situation where my brother has this horrible B.O. that actually leaves an odor trail wherever he goes. He's not the nicest person in the world and will instantly get offended if anyone points this out and try to say we're making it up or taht we're trying to pick a fight with him.

You know its bad because I myself have a very poor sense of smell, and even I can smell where he's been.

If your coworker really is as nice as you say, then my thoughts are to just try to break it lightly and repeatedly, leaving space in between times you tell her

She will take offence no matter what you do, even if you approach it gently, no one wants to be told they are smelly. Do other people in the office feel the same way?
I'd say a few of you take it to your boss as a matter of concern, just tell your boss that you have difficulty in bringing it up directly to that person because it's so sensitive and personal you don't want said person to feel attacked by yourself or others but it is disrupting the way you work with her because you can't breathe!
Your boss gets paid enough to deal with shit like that.
If however, you're feeling brave enough to bring it up to her directly, do it gently, alone with no one else around, she won't be happy but she might take a good smell of herself and do something about it.
Tricky one for sure when it's nothing to do with how they work and when it's a personal matter. Good luck .

I have the same problem with relative.... Don't know how to hint he needs a deodorant at least in the summer
SW-User
Uh, play dumb, I guess. When she walks in the room, make a note that something smells bad. Then ask her if she stepped in anything. Of course, you'll find out that that's not the real reason, but just pretend that you don't know why the room suddenly started smelling bad. Maybe it'll make her just self-conscious enough to take better care of her hygiene
SW-User
maybe you can pretend you just went shopping and happened to see the great sale buy 1 get one free...so you bought too and one for a friend (her) If she sees you got one too--maybe she'll buy the story of how generous and nice of a co-worker you are...might kill two birds with one stone

Love this!!!@ThingsSheDoesntKnow:

Honestly, you probably can't. That doesn't mean you shouldn't tell her - but you should do it privately, and be very direct - all the suggestions about giving her deodorant or soap or whatever will just add to her embarassment further.
Lolco · 36-40, M
Lmao !!! Omg one of my biggest pet peeves .... are you really cool with her? I don't know what to say damn...... this sucks!!
Angelwithbrokenwingxo · 26-30, F
Ugh lol@Lolco3:
Lolco · 36-40, M
@Angelwithbrokenwingxo: some people genuinely don't know how to genuinely shower & brush their teeth .... I can't date someone that doesn't know how to do these things no way (pull her to the side if you're somewhat cool with her the goal is not to embarrass her infront of others & definitely not make her feel embarrass Period, just break it down, give some recommendations in your routine & favorite products ect.... hope this helps 🤗
Angelwithbrokenwingxo · 26-30, F
You're right.. I'll definitely try to talk to her.@Lolco3:
plungesponge · 41-45, M
Bring a canary into the office and let it die. Then you can investigate and present your findings to her.
Angelwithbrokenwingxo · 26-30, F
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 @plungesponge:
plungesponge · 41-45, M
Actually...I just thought of maybe a more credible answer. Bring a little kid into work, and have him/her go up to the co-worker and say "You smell". Kids can say basically anything, and you'll be there apologizing profusely but the truth will be out anyway.
Angelwithbrokenwingxo · 26-30, F
Lol kids are brutally honest @plungesponge:

Give her soap , shampoo and deodorant! Leave it as a 🎁! She will take the hint ....jk... that wound be mean.
buy her perfume or deodorant some thing s need to be said
Adogslife · 61-69, M
Leave a kind note.
SW-User
@Adogslife: that would still cut her heart tho...
Angelwithbrokenwingxo · 26-30, F
I mean I guess I could do that but it still will hurt her feelings @Adogslife:
Adogslife · 61-69, M
@Angelwithbrokenwingxo: she may not realize. She may ascribe to hygiene habits that we do not. Either way, she's in a "semi-closed" business environment and is responsible for a reasonable amount of conformity.

Her employment packet should delineate that.

If no one is close enough to tell her, HR will have to.
SW-User
Suggest her good deodorant and ask her to try it
SW-User
gift her a soap and perfume and smile :)

Bo or breath?
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@Angelwithbrokenwingxo: I wish I had an answer for you .. Maybe try a different approach ... Smear some Vicks vapour rub on your top lip?
Maybe you need to go to your supervisor and discuss haven't a general memo out out about dress standards etc so she doesn't feel singled out?
Angelwithbrokenwingxo · 26-30, F
😂😂😂😂 lol Vicks on the upper lip though😂😂😂😂 I love this answer @ozgirl512:
