How should I help her?

I have a neighbour that am close with, we go to evening walks and spend time sometimes.

I know she has been having some issues with mother in law and sister in law she’s living with.

Lately I’ve seen her growing very thin and frail. Also during our walking she tripped and fell hurt her nose and asked me not to tell anyone in her family about it.

Not sure how I can help her

Remain friends with her and let her know she can always count on you and come to you if she ever needs someone. Invite her over for dinner.

I have been super skinny and believe me, comments about it did not make me eat better. The opposite. Instead I felt more shame and controlled it by starving myself even worse.

Rather give her emotional support

@Genelia Maybe start by getting her to see a doctor who can tell her she is sick.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Genelia Then what's making her so skinny? Is she exercising a lot?
Genelia · 36-40, F
@Queendragonfly not exercises. She’s naturally petite, but I think she has developed stress with family initially and now taking care of a kid and recently had a stale birth

Ask if she has anything that is stressing her out
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
@dale74 @Genelia

... also:

"Why don't you want your family to know"

Observe her reply and pick up on her non-verbal responses, as in a 'look of fear' at your suggestion
Genelia · 36-40, F
@dale74 yeah I ask about it and guess she looks so skinny because of mental stress. But doesn’t seem to be anything in particular
Genelia · 36-40, F
@BigGuy2 yeah it was something like his husband questions 100 things about it

Anonymous call to adult care for well check
Applepiedom · 56-60, M
@Genelia where,country,is here?
Genelia · 36-40, F
@BigGuy2 right as far as I can guess it’s the SIL creating ruckus and husband being protecting of himself and this lady not voicing her part of story
Genelia · 36-40, F
@Applepiedom India, it’s a town though
Never get involved in anyone else's problems. Tomorrow people will blame you only.
If you do, don't let them know.
Genelia · 36-40, F
@BigGuy2 being dead is an overkill, but I do understand that might be a possibility if things go south
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
@Genelia ... if i'm right in suspecting what's happening, she may think to herself:

"The only way out is ..."
Genelia · 36-40, F
@BigGuy2 right but with time she’s kinda adjusted, given she has a son
Bleak · 36-40, F
Domestic violence 😡😡😡
Genelia · 36-40, F
@Bleak not sure what’s exactly the case. I’m just looking at surface parameters
pdockal · 56-60, M
You can't unless she says something but you can suggest having a meal with her or desert
pdockal · 56-60, M
@Genelia

You mentioned thin & frail & stumbling
You can make sure by sharing food with her
Genelia · 36-40, F
@pdockal hmm okay, but yeah she seems fine with her food. Whatever she prepares and has and just have snacks together sometimes
pdockal · 56-60, M
@Genelia

She has to eat the food she prepared
It's none of your business. She should make her own decisions. I know you are more concerned about her fragility but mental health is more important.
Genelia · 36-40, F
@littlepuppywantanewlife yeah idk after she stumbled along with walk with me, idk i feel kinda concerned
assemblingaknob · 26-30, F
Omg. I don't think there's much you can do but plant the idea of freeing herself from this situation very subtly in her head.
Genelia · 36-40, F
@assemblingaknob hmm yeah since I’m not related to them in any way, can’t help much. But since she’s hiding issues if any, I can’t help her, but it’s kinda visible

I think the only thing you can do is continue to be her friend.
Genelia · 36-40, F
@NewRaven like to know more?
NewRaven · 51-55, F
@Genelia continue your walks and talks with her. If there are problems, she’ll eventually confide in you. Even that can be a help to someone.
Genelia · 36-40, F
@NewRaven right looks sensible for now
dale74 · M
Ask her why she is loosing the weight
Genelia · 36-40, F
@dale74 she says she’s always been like it
dale74 · M
@Genelia tell her you have noticed a difference and matbe her doctor should test for cancer
Genelia · 36-40, F
@dale74 well she has iron deficiency and low immunity and usually has cold, so I thought that maybe the reason
Reflection2 · 41-45, M
Have you ever asked her whats going on?
Genelia · 36-40, F
@Reflection2 what’s going on about?
Stay out if it
Genelia · 36-40, F
@ExperienceDLT yeah well I don’t want to actively involve since it’s not my problem. But idk was just concern after she stumbled
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
Sounds like she's being bullied - especially if her Mother AND Sister-in-Law are living at the address ...

...you may be her ONLY ray of hope ... so it's your call, get Support Services involved
Genelia · 36-40, F
@BigGuy2 okay but yeah i don’t wanna be a step ahead and take the load on me and she’s not physically abused. So idk if that would help
BigGuy2 · 26-30, M
@Genelia let the Police take the load ... various types of abuse have a pattern AND make the VICTIM act in a particular way AND say particular things - {"don't tell the family}
Genelia · 36-40, F
@BigGuy2 right, let me see if this is possible if I have any contact with cop and Not really file any complaint
