How should I help her?

I have a neighbour that am close with, we go to evening walks and spend time sometimes.

I know she has been having some issues with mother in law and sister in law she’s living with.

Lately I’ve seen her growing very thin and frail. Also during our walking she tripped and fell hurt her nose and asked me not to tell anyone in her family about it.

Not sure how I can help her

Remain friends with her and let her know she can always count on you and come to you if she ever needs someone. Invite her over for dinner.

I have been super skinny and believe me, comments about it did not make me eat better. The opposite. Instead I felt more shame and controlled it by starving myself even worse.

Rather give her emotional support

@Queendragonfly right I understand currently being friends n speaking to her sister about It can help.

Can you tell about what comments u got for being super skinny and why did u starve more?
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Genelia "Why aren't you eating?" "You aren't eating" "You look so incredibly skinny " "You're just bones" "You're like a twig" and so on , said by both adults and kids my own age back then.

Like I said. I starved myself worse because everyone's condescending / judgemental comments about my body made me feel shame. I dealt with the shame by controlling my food intake.
Some deal with shame feelings by binge eating or drinking or sex or gambling or drugs. For me it was starvation.

@Queendragonfly oh I see I understand. Actually I see some similarity with you and her on this matter.

What has been your average and minimum BMI if you know?
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Genelia BMI was severely underweight. I think I weighed around 40kg when I started to eat again. I'm 159cm tall.

How old is she? Do you know if she's taking any medications?
Genelia · 36-40, F
@Queendragonfly she’s around 35 yrs. height and weight is same as u mentioned I guess. Afaik she has iron deficiency and bit low immunity
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Genelia Probably. I think she need to see a professional.
Genelia · 36-40, F
@Queendragonfly I have also heard of people that became anorexic after being skinny shamed ( not this lady though)
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Genelia Anorexia is if she starve herself and don't wanna eat because she think she needs to lose weight. I had anorexia.
Genelia · 36-40, F
@Queendragonfly yeah but firstly she doesn’t take any help and not sure what kinda professional to take help
Form ?
Genelia · 36-40, F
@Queendragonfly oh anorexia is pretty dangerous and she’s 45 kg and doesn’t seem to be anorexic or eating issues
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Genelia Maybe start by getting her to see a doctor who can tell her she is sick.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@Genelia Then what's making her so skinny? Is she exercising a lot?
Genelia · 36-40, F
@Queendragonfly not exercises. She’s naturally petite, but I think she has developed stress with family initially and now taking care of a kid and recently had a stale birth
