He could be uncomfortable with sharing his condition just yet. There is a lot of shame and fear that people face regarding their medical histories. Not that there should be any, we're all human and prone to illness.

Maybe he's ashamed of the condition. Just be his friend, and that may be the therapy that he needs to one day tell you.
