I love Herman Hesse

“We are sun and moon, dear friend; we are sea and land. It is not our purpose to become each other; it is to recognize each other, to learn to see the other and honor him for what he is: each the other's opposite and complement.”

Hermann Hesse, Narcissus and Goldmund
DrWatson · 70-79, M
The only book by him I have read is Siddhartha. But I was probably too young to appreciate it (I was in high school.) I often think of reading it again at this stage of my life.
@DrWatson

He was a great writer … my favorite book by him was Damian but he won a Nobel prize for his book, Steppenwolf ….

You are the sun; I am the moon; you are the words; I am the tune....

Play me.
@originnone

Nice one …

@originnone Neal Diamond. That was a great song.

I recognize that author’s name!

@Soossie
I found Nietzsche very poetic and inspiring in his writings.
I was always amazed by Kafka’s Novels “ the trial” and “ the castle”. The structure of his story showed very strong attention to syntax and words used. I liken him to a craftsman.
@Pfuzylogic

I completely agree about Nietzsche … He is poetic and very beautiful especially in Thus Said Zarathustra..

My favorite book by Kafka is The Metamorphosis… that’s a very good book and thought provoking…
Pfuzylogic · M
@Soossie That was the book I was thinking of when I made the statement about Nietzsche. The book could send shivers up my spine.
Metamorphosis was Kafka’s most well known writing. It gives a novel/new reader a taste of who he is.
Thank you for making me thinking of this author. Most will know him for 'Steppenwolf', or Siddhartha, but I'd say his best work was Demian. I'd have to read the books again to really say, but Demian felt the most honest.
@Soossie maybe I should reread, and my observation could be born from being male, and often I look towards what is not celebrated.
@thewindupbirdchronicles

I hope that you’ll enjoy…
@Soossie once I reread, its placed on a list to get to.. time is limited and an author I should get back to.
okaybut · 56-60, M
Nice quote...I read one of his books in my 20s. I have to think about it again...
okaybut · 56-60, M
@Soossie Enjoying it so far...I like his simple writing style...but I kind of feel there is a layer below that is coming.
@okaybut

Uh, that was quick … I’m glad that you like it so far… I’m sure that you will be enjoying reading the rest of it…
okaybut · 56-60, M
@Soossie Yes, I needed to start reading a good story. I will let you know...but so far enjoying it. 😀
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
That is one of my favourite books ever.
@ServantOfTheGoddess

Indeed a great book …
He’s great. I read most of his books in college.
@LeopoldBloom

Unfortunately not… I’m not familiar with his/her works… here in Iran we get to read only some books which are licensed to be published…
@Soossie Coetzee is a South African author who won the Nobel Prize in fiction. Most of his books aren't remotely political, except one that really doesn't apply outside of South Africa. It would be a shame if the Iranian government censored him.

You might be able to download on zlibrary unless it's blocked.

@LeopoldBloom

Thank you so much for introducing him and for the link… I shall try to see if I can download … 🙏🙏

Oh...interesting thought. The books that matter most to you are the ones that actually change you. I never thought of it that way.
ReneeT · 61-69, M
I have read a few of his books. Steppinwolf was a good one.
@ReneeT

He won a Nobel prize for that book …
pearllederman · 61-69, F
thats a good poem
@pearllederman

It is part of a novel that he wrote …

🤗🤗🌹
Entwistle · 56-60, M
