That sounds like a delicious meal, and a well-paired wine will definitely elevate the experience! Given your menu of grilled tofu, broccoli, and pesto mushroom pasta, the flavors are light, savory, and herbaceous, which means you’ll want a wine that complements those elements without overpowering them.
White Wine Options
Sauvignon Blanc
Bright acidity and herbal notes make this a natural pairing with pesto and broccoli. It will also cut through the richness of the mushrooms and tofu.
Look for bottles from New Zealand or the Loire Valley.
Chardonnay (Unoaked or Lightly Oaked)
A crisp, unoaked Chardonnay pairs well with creamy pesto pasta, while a lightly oaked version can add a touch of warmth and richness for the holidays.
Consider one from Chablis or California.
Pinot Grigio or Albariño
These wines are light, zesty, and refreshing, complementing the simplicity of tofu and the green notes of broccoli and pesto.
Red Wine Options
Pinot Noir
A light, fruity red with earthy undertones that match the mushrooms in your pasta without clashing with the pesto or greens.
Go for a bottle from Oregon or Burgundy.
Gamay (Beaujolais)
Bright red fruit flavors and a light body make Gamay a festive, food-friendly choice that won't overpower your dish.
Try a Beaujolais-Villages or a Cru Beaujolais.
Grenache or Grenache Blend
Soft red fruits with moderate acidity that can balance the richness of pesto and mushrooms while being gentle enough for the tofu and broccoli.
Rosé Option
Dry Rosé
A versatile and festive choice with crisp acidity and light fruitiness. It works well with the herbaceous pesto and grilled tofu.
Final Suggestions
If you're not sure about your preferences:
White wine: Start with a Sauvignon Blanc for a fresh, easy pairing.
Red wine: Try a Pinot Noir if you’d like to experiment with a light red.
Don’t forget to chill your whites and rosés (but not too cold) and serve reds slightly below room temperature for the best experience. Cheers to a wonderful holiday meal! 🥂

@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays Wow, this was great. thanks!
@DrWatson My purpose was to help the young lady. And I did that.

@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays I know! I hope I made it clear that I was not being critical of you.

Red wine and pasta are a good combination. I avoid tofu so don't know what to recommend with that.
michaela2001 · 70-79
Judging by your meal ingredients, I would suggest you research your wines carefully. Many wines still use animal products, like during the final clearing (fining) stages, and milk based glues to make the agglomerated corks for the bottles.

Oh, I don't know what she did to you for sure, because you still haven't answered my previous question about your poor mom! 🤷🏼♀

my first instinct is vermentino, a white grape frequently used for wines from Liguria ... because pesto originates in Liguria
this may be too obscure of a grape for a supermarket though, you may have better luck finding some in a wine shop or big box beverage retailer
and I would look for one actually from Liguria, or at least Italy ... please not vermentino grown in the New World (e.g., Australia)

white would go with your combo....it's the tofu and brocolli
plus the pesto
plus the pesto

Try Stella Rosa, a good dessert wine, many flavors to choose from
DrWatson · 70-79, M
I would go with white. Especially with the pesto .
Hmmm I'd go a nice pinot noir 🍷

REMsleep · 41-45, F
I would say white wine or perhaps a Rose
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
I only like red. But my guess for this would be a white
shakemeup · 36-40
@Notsimilarreally I thought that too, especially since it's tofu and broccoli. I'm the opposite, I like white wine a little bit better
masterofyou · 70-79, M
Red....... A good dry red wine....
Gibbon · 70-79, M
Don't know. Gibbon no like mushy soy.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Mad Dog is fine.
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
For me. It would be only red because I’m allergic to white.
Vin53 · M
California Sauvignon Blanc
LordShadowfire · 46-50, MVIP
Definitely a red.
shakemeup · 36-40
@LordShadowfire Thank you. I appreciate the recommendation. People older than me always know what to pick and have good taste.
But I'm also kind of leaning towards white. Lol
I should have made more food and invited people over. I could open both bottles then. 😆

@ShenaniganFoodie Yeah. I don't understand a bit about investing in wine. Is this a hobby of yours or something you are interested in?
Ferric67 · M
@ShenaniganFoodie that's a serious wine, I had it once...but, when I bought it, it only cost $300
