Many vegans kill insects if they're part of an infestation or otherwise harmful. It's a dietary choice, not a religion. There's no vegan pope excommunicating people who don't comply.

As far as I know, most vegans are not against killing either human or non-human animals in self-defense, or when there is no reasonable alternative.

Vegans are typically against the ethics how how meat/dairy is produced, so getting rid of pests wouldn’t go against those values. Not a vegan, just a vegetarian who loves insects but knows where to draw the line.
