The vegan options at McDonalds in the states are so sad compared to Europe.

It’s so interesting to me how American companies choose to be more advanced/progressive in other countries.

McDonald's has to follow the laws of each country they're established in. we have worse options and ingredients here because we allow more low-grade ingredients and additives than other countries
bellybuttonfan17 · 36-40, M
Not "choose" to be, rather "made" - the laws of Europe are people friendly unlike America, where it is more corporate friendly.

McDonald's is a business and they adjust their way of working in each country both to comply with local legislation and also with local tastes and opinions in order to be competitive. For instance, here in Norway McDonald's advertising makes a big deal of pointing out that all the beef they use is produced in Norway. The reason for this is simply that Norwegians are sceptical about the quality of imported meat.

From McDonald's Norwegian web pages:
Norske kvalitetsråvarer og bærekraftig verdikjede

I McDonald's er vi stolte av å støtte den norske bonden og norsk kvalitetsmat, derfor kommer mesteparten av våre råvarer fra norske bønder. Vi bruker for eksempel kun 100 % norsk storfekjøtt, norsk kylling, økologiske egg, poteter og løk – og norsk salat, når sesongen tillater det.

Or in English via Google Translate
Norwegian quality raw materials and sustainable value chain

At McDonald's, we are proud to support the Norwegian farmer and Norwegian quality food, therefore most of our raw materials come from Norwegian farmers. For example, we only use 100% Norwegian beef, Norwegian chicken, organic eggs, potatoes and onions - and Norwegian salad, when the season permits.
McDonald's is a purely greed-based corporation. They don't care about anything except profits. It's the American Way!
StrictLoving · 56-60, M
@hunkalove If being profitable is the same as being greedy, then yes.

Of course, the alternative to profits is losses, and eventual failure.

In most cases, companies produce profit by giving people what they want.

In the case of McDonald's, that's inexpensive food that is consistently mediocre.

I care about what I put in my body, so I don't eat at McDonald's.

But I don't think what they are doing is wrong.

I simply believe the people who go there don't prioritize their health highly enough.

@StrictLoving I was waiting for a Lyft and all I could get was sweet tea and it was way too sweet (not literally the only thing tho) 😅

@Aidan you are not their target market 😆

Why should a burger joint become more vegan? Do vegans lack places to eat?
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@StrictLoving McDonald's in Europe has got much better in recent decades. Not my favourite place to eat but it is sometimes convenient when I am driving between Norway and the UK to stop at McDonald's for a snack. I imagine that if I were a vegan I would be grateful that any fast food outlet had any vegan food because it really isn't very common.
StrictLoving · 56-60, M
@ninalanyon my thinking was more along the lines of

it doesn't matter what the question is, the answer is not McDonald's.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
@StrictLoving Twenty years ago I would have said the same thing but in northern Europe now they are not so bad, at least if all I want is a cup of coffee and some fries, the use of the wifi, and the lavatory. They are usually clean and efficient. I never eat the burgers, not because they are especially bad but because the bread they are wrapped in doesn't deserve the name, but that goes for every other burger place I have ever visited too.
People should be able to decide what goes in their food. Nobody should be forced to go vegan or eat meat.

@ShellSeeker And yet parents all over the world tell their children to eat their meat and vegetables. 😢

I have no idea why McDonald's is so popular and why people choose to eat such crappy food.
