Childhood candy memories

Chuckles candy! They are still available in some places, and every once in a great while I have bought them purely out of a sense of nostalgia.

As kid, I had a pretty set order in which I ate them:

Yellow
Orange
Green
Red
Black

Sometimes I would reverse the order of Green and Red.

What was/is your Chuckles order? 😄

My grandpa used to give us bite o honey when we were kids. It wasn’t my favorite but I loved that he gave it to us. It was a fond memory. I can’t find it that often now.

I got candy in the summer when relatives came to visit. We would go to to the Old Country Candy store, in...Wayland? We would take relatives there as part of a historic tour of Massachusetts.

The store was an old fashioned general store, revamped to be a tourist attraction because of it's quirky pickle barrels with really huge sour pickles for sale, penny candy, and a nickelodeon.

My favorites were the coconut flavored "watermelon slices", Squirrels wrapped candy, and Mary Janes with peanut butter in the middle. We could buy packs of candy cigarettes there, and if you blew on them, real looking "smoke" came out! 🤣🤣🤣

I've never tried a chuckles.

A fav childhood candy memory for me are those spearmint striped candies.
One of grandfathers always had a jar of them and after working all day on the farm,he'd eat one after coming in and showering. If I did a good job with the chores and got a lot done when I'd be at their farmhouse then I would get one too.

Every once in awhile I pick up a small pack of them and have one a day.

I really liked those kind of candies. Although I haven't had any for a long time, I figure I still do. I probably alternated eating my least favorite and favorite ones, but I really don't remember...for sure. I usually saved any licorice flavored jelly candies for last, in case my mom wanted them.

Chocolate & more chocolate was my choice
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@pdockal My candy choice is almost always chocolate as well. But these were a notable exception.

@DrWatson

You can have mine
I don't even remember trying them

I wasn't picky.....whatever end I opened and ate them pretty much as fast as I could get them out of the package.

I never heard of those but loved hershey bars. They still have them but I rarely eat them now.
😃 I always ate them in exactly the same order, reversing the green and red.
I can taste them just from looking at the picture.
Green is my favorite.

My favourite sweets were Rowntree fruit gums, with the same range of colours. In order of preference:

Green
Black
Yellow
Red

I didn't like Orange at all. I would swap those with my sister for Green 🙂
DrWatson · 70-79, M
@SunshineGirl I probably would have made the same swap!
