Is it just me or does it seem that hamburger meat has become increasingly more disgusting?

I remember when I was younger, I would eat tacos or make hamburgers, and they were good and juicy, and over the last few years no matter where I get hamburgers from, it's either tasteless or disgusting.

Has anyone experienced the same? What do you think is going on?

A friend of mine and I have noticed this. What is happening is that they are introducing pink slime to hamburger meat. Pink slime is a pink slurry made up of things that used to go into dog food, made up of things you would rather not know about.

The only way to get real hamburger now is to buy a boneless chuck roast, and have it ground by the butcher at the super market.

@Stereoguy True,,, unfortunately. And it's been happening for years and years.

A change over the year is that butcher shops and supermarkets once ground their own hamburger meat, so it was freshly ground with no additives. Most hamburger meat is now ground and packaged at the slaughter house, with a variety of additives. Pink slime as 4meAndyou mentioned, preservatives, and who knows what else.

Also .... I grew up in the grocery business and my dad's store had a butcher shop. Referencing the 1950s, I don't recall fresh meat or poultry products ever being frozen, either to facilitate delivery or in-store. Carcasses were delivered from the packing houses to the store in refrigerated trucks, wrapped in cheese-cloth and the sides or quarters were stored in walk-in refrigerators and further butchered as needed. Without preservatives or sealed shrink-wrap, once butchered it only had a day or two shelf life before turning blackish.
Yes the quality has deteriorated much .People who have sensitive taste buds would detect it quickly. You can add sides to enhance the taste

The body supposedly completely and totally changes cells every 7 years (some are fastest than that, but others take up to 7 years) and so they say peoples taste and other thing changes with it.

Also, it could be the type of hamburger you're getting...

Like what percentage of fat? What was the animal fed, etc.
This is why I started buying meat from small processors. I understand, I’m fortunate to be able to. I’m not much of a meat consumer, but if I’m
Going to eat it, it can’t be disgusting.

@nonsensiclesnail Yes, there is a place in my town that specializes in meat and it's good, sadly their business hours do not coincide with my time off, so it is rare that I get a chance to go there.

Thank you for your response.
@Bri89 sorry I don’t know the reasons why. But.. this is obviously just my opinion, it’s not just the quality of meat. As in, how they live and are treated. It’s also the number of cows that go into that one package of hamburger.

@GeniUs True. It's sad, really that getting older means your body outgrows food one used to enjoy as a kid.

@Bri89 A while back I made my own burgers and it was very easy; beef mince (pork for hamburgers), finely chopped onion, an egg, and flour to bind it all together. Add herbs, (I just used ground black pepper to warm them up a bit) mix all the ingredients and use a cutter or even the mouth of a cup to get the shape. Use the ones you want right away and freeze the rest, I put individual patties in small freezer bags before stacking them in the freezer. They were better and cheaper than shop bought patties and now the price has risen to £2.50 for 4 quarter pounders (UK) I'll be making them again.

@10liters It's an ongoing process.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by disgusting besides greasy?
Bri89 · 31-35, M
@Chickie Dry, the texture is off, and the taste varies from being rotten even when it isn't, and when it is in the process of being cooked, the smell doesn't smell good at all. And this isn't just one store, it's starting to happen no matter where I go.
Chickie · F
@Bri89 I never had this problem before except maybe when I ordered take away. I guessing that you have sensitive taste buds and that the meat is very processed?
Bri89 · 31-35, M
@Chickie That very well may be. I guess as I get older everything changes.

Thanks for answering.
