Do you think they should get rid of tipping in restaurants in the United States?

And in order to pay the waiters/waitresses a normal wage the businesses could increase the prices for the food and instead of giving water for free maybe charge like 7/8 dollars for a pitcher of water.

Restaurants already overcharge for food that just isn't very good.

Then on the bill, they have a list of suggested tips, that is just icky.

This whole tipping and donation culture needs to go.

@HoeBag the only justification is that if you receive poor service you are free to tip nothing or lower than suggested. We did that once and the manager ran after u a asking why. We explained in very clear terms.

@samueltyler2 Overall, a waitress spends maybe five minutes with any one party. Take order, bring food, stop by now and then to ask if everything is alright. Five minutes total, unless the party is needy or demanding.
Then they expect a 25 to 30 percent tip? On a $50 bill, that comes to $10 to $15 for those five minutes. That comes to at least $120 an hour.

But then when they are ASKING for tips, it just creates an uncomfortable situation. Like being at a gh3tto Walmart or asking to borrow someone's toothbrush.

Owners claim, "We are running on razor thin margins and cannot afford to pay!" Well maybe they need to close shop.

@samueltyler2 I would never work as a server. Yeah you have to work hard just so your actual boss can pay next to nothing and depend on tips. The whole situation is just awkward.

I very seldom go to restaurants except fast food where they do not ask for tips just yet.
