I bought leeks once. They are famous for having almost as much sand inside as clams, and they are supposed to be soaked before using. There was only a TINY bit of grit in my soup.

@4meAndyou Yeah you have to separate the layers and wash every piece and inspect them afterwards. I was born on a farm, pretty sure I had a little grit or two back then.

Have you ever had the soup chilled (in Summer) as Creme Vichyssoise? Delicious too, Patti

@cherokeepatti I don't make it very often nowadays because of the carbs in the potatoes - and the consistency isn't right without them :-(

@ArtieKat the health advantage of having the soup as Vichyssoise would be that the potatoes will develop more resistance starch and that has a lot of health benefits…digestion, balancing neurotransmitters, healthy appetite and weight loss, better digestion etc. These are very good carbs.

@cherokeepatti I hadn't thought of that, thank you

Onion sprouts are a good substitute maybe? Anyone it sounds delicious!
cherokeepatti · 70-79, F
@Ohplease47 not sure that would taste the same but you could try it.
