@ChemicalXTheExtraterrestrial Okay, that makes sense ! Thank you
I wanted to add shrimp to the Momofuku noodles I posted about earlier, and this was a suggestion from another customer. (I prepared the "Soy & Scallion" flavor)

I decided to just sautée the shrimp in some soy sauce, and that turned out to taste just right.
It didn’t need any kind of pepper, because I also had the "Chili Crunch" the maker recommended.
Just a little bit was sufficient, and it was hot, but not unbearable.
So, overall, it turned out pretty well. 😄

@bijouxbroussard That looks delicious!

Maybe Mexican Oregano which is not sweet like Italian.... Marjoram is also an Oregano....
Northwest · M
It's neither Oregano nor pepper. It's widely used in Mexican cuisine. Are you making pozole or menudo.
You should be able to find it in a neighborhood Tienda. You can ask for orégano mexicano, or orégano silvestre or orégano del campo.

@Northwest I learn all kinds of things here. 😃

Didn't know myself, so I let the AI look up the differences from below...
Orégano del campo and orégano silvestre are often used interchangeably to refer to wild oregano, typically found in natural settings.
Oregano pepper usually refers to a specific variety of oregano with a peppery flavor,
while orégano mexicano (Mexican oregano) is distinct from Mediterranean oregano, offering a stronger, citrusy flavor profile and is commonly used in Mexican cuisine.

Only thing I could find……..
Oregano pepper is not a commonly recognized term; however, it may refer to the use of oregano as a seasoning that can have a peppery flavor. Oregano is a herb often used in cooking, particularly in Mediterranean and Mexican cuisines, known for its robust and aromatic taste.

I'm with you here, as is in having no idea what the recipe means by that.
OogieBoogie · F
I have no idea. Never heard of it.
Screw it.....use a herb you like and add perspective .....(Hahaha - that was meant to be pepper but auto corrected😂)
Recipes are like that. Substitute to your hearts desire 🤗
Maybe its a typo and should have said 'oragano and pepper'?

@OogieBoogie I initially wondered that, as well.

Very cool. I have been trying new recipes several times a month, have learned a lot. But not what that is! :-)
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Mexican oregano is available online and supposedly in walmart. Totally different plant.

I've never heard of it, maybe it's an error

@MyNameIsHurl A first for me, and I thought I knew my seasonings. 😅
metaldog · 51-55, F
Oregano and soy is an unusual combo
metaldog · 51-55, F
@bijouxbroussard don't do it 😆
bijouxbroussard · F
@metaldog Yes, I just sautéed the shrimp in soy sauce. That was more than sufficient.
metaldog · 51-55, F
@bijouxbroussard haha good call 😊

Its like cinnamon-sugar: a mixture of the two

Reading through such posts shows me how ignorant I am😊
bijouxbroussard · F
@WandererTony Hey, I’ve been cooking since I was a kid and I didn’t know what it was, either. 🤭
WandererTony · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard some consolation that! LOL 😆
